With the 2012/13 NBA regular season now underway the defending-champion Miami Heat remain ahead of the revamped Los Angeles Lakers and Kevin Durant and the youthful Oklahoma City Thunder at the top of the NBA championship futures at the online sportsbooks.

At Bovada the Heat are the favorites at 9/5 odds to win the title this year during the lockout-shortened campaign, with Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder now second on the list at 11/2 odds. The Chicago Bulls sit third with 6/1 title odds.
Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers have slipped to 13/2 odds to win the NBA championship in 2012, with the New York Knicks and the defending-champion Dallas Mavericks both listed at 15/1 odds. The NBA lockout hasn't cooled expectations for the Miami Heat, as they continue to be the betting favorite to win the 2012 NBA championship at the online sportsbooks.

The Miami Heat were favored all season long, and even after losing to the Dallas Mavericks in six games they are STILL favored looking ahead to the 2012 NBA futures.
Dallas, which entered the playoffs as a big 20/1 longshot (see some of the previous future odds below), is at 10/1 to repeat and that may be generous given the age of the roster and the number of expiring contracts.

They've reached the final four in the NBA playoffs and LeBron James and the Miami Heat have hit the top of the NBA championship futures.
Even though they lost Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against Chicago the Heat remain the title favorites at Bovada at 9/5. Miami took care of the aging and injured Celtics in the second round but their biggest challenge in the postseason could be getting past the Bulls, who they have yet to beat this season.
The Big Three of James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh said they were going to bring multiple championships to Miami, but to get their first they have to get past Chicago.
The Bulls aren't far behind the Heat on the Bovada odds list at 9/4. If the Bulls continue to manhandle the Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals the way they did in Game 1 they could end up on top of the odds pretty soon. Chicago crushed Miami 103-82 in the series opener as a 2-point favorite. With Boston and the Lakers already out of the way the Bulls could be headed for their first title since the Michael Jordan era.
The Eastern Conference teams may be the oddsmakers' favorites, but don't count out the teams from the west, Dallas and Oklahoma City. The Mavericks are getting the better odds right now at 5/2, while the Thunder are at the bottom of the pile at 5/1.
Dallas continues to be underestimated by oddsmakers and bettors despite sweeping the Lakers in the second round. In fact, the Mavs have been the best option for bettors throughout the playoffs so far with a flawless 9-0-1 record ATS.
The Thunder got all they could handle from Memphis in the second round but survived thanks to a big Game 7 from Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. But can they keep it up? As long as the Durant that struggled in Game 6 versus the Grizzlies doesn't show up again the Thunder won't be pushovers versus the Mavericks.

With the first round of the NBA playoffs coming to a close there have been a few changes on the NBA Championship futures at Sportsbook.ag.
When the postseason tipped off the Lakers were the title favorites at Sportsbook.ag. Los Angeles remains near the top of the futures list, but they've surrendered the top spot to Miami and Oklahoma City.
Both the Heat and the Thunder have been listed at +200 on the latest futures odds. Miami looked pretty good in the opening round, taking out Philadelphia in five games. The Heat's Big 3 of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh all had at least one big game in the series, and if they continue to perform well they could win the first of that long list of championships they're expected to bring home to South Beach.
The Thunder have shot up the odds list after getting past Denver in the opening round in five games. Oklahoma City started the postseason as a +1200 underdog on the NBA Championship futures, which is a far cry from their current standing at +200. The difference-maker has been Kevin Durant. He averaged 32 points per game in the series, and netted 41 points twice to help the Thunder bury the Nuggets If Durant can continue to be such a force he could carry the Thunder to an unexpected NBA title.
The Lakers finally check in on the odds list next at +250. That's down slightly from the +200 at which they opened the postseason. Los Angeles tumbling a bit on the odds shouldn't be a surprise, though, as they haven't exactly blown away the Hornets in the opening round. Kobe Bryant dealing with an injured ankle is another reason the Lakers don't share the top spot with the Heat and the Thunder. Don't forget, though, that the Lakers have won the last two NBA titles and could come alive at any moment. Getting them now at +250 may be the best value you'll find if they do go on a run.
The Lakers aren't the only ones to see a slight drop on the odds. The Chicago Bulls are also down a bit, falling from +250 to their current slot at +350. Pinpointing the reason for that fall is easy – the ankle injury to Derrick Rose. Without Derrick Rose the Bulls have no chance at contending so his health is a big concern. Rose played through the injury in Chicago's Game 5 win over Indiana and didn't miss a step with 25 points. If Rose isn't bothered by the ankle taking Chicago at +350 could be a smart bet.

The Los Angeles Lakers' bid for an NBA championship three-peat begins this weekend as the favorite on the NBA championship futures at Sportsbook.ag.
Despite stumbling down the stretch during the regular season the Lakers begin the playoffs as the title favorite at +200. Los Angeles received a scare in their regular season finale when often-injured center Andrew Bynum suffered a knee injury, but it is reportedly not serious and he should be ready when the Lakers open the postseason versus New Orleans. The Lakers are still a force led by Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Lamar Odom, but they'll need to avoid the lackluster play that saw them go 2-5 in their last seven games.
The best record in the NBA this season belonged to the Chicago Bulls and they're right behind the Lakers on the NBA futures at Sportsbook.ag at +250. Derrick Rose had an MVP caliber season for Chicago, but can he lead the Bulls through a long playoff run? Chicago may not boast the star power of the Lakers, Heat, or Celtics, but they have a solid lineup behind Rose that includes Joakim Noah, Carlos Boozer, and Luol Deng. Even more impressive is the fact that the Bulls were a combined 5-2 versus Miami and Boston this season.
What about the Heat and the Celtics? Miami was supposed to be built to win multiple championships after bringing in LeBron James and Chris Bosh to play with Dwyane Wade. The Heat begin their run at the title as a +350 underdog at Sportsbook.ag. The pieces started to fall into place for Miami in the second half of the season and they finished the season with a 15-3 record in their last 18 games.
The Celtics have been falling down the futures since the trade deadline and begin the postseason at +700 at Sportsbook.ag. Boston was a disappointing 6-7 in their last 13 games of the regular season, which included losses to Eastern playoff teams Chicago, Miami, Indiana, and Atlanta. Boston may have caught a lucky break by facing New York in the first round; Boston was 4-0 against the Knicks and needs to get its game back against New York to put together a solid playoff run.
Before the Celtics on the Sportsbook.ag odds list are the San Antonio Spurs at +450. The injury bug also bit the Spurs on the final day of the regular season as Manu Ginobili suffered a hyperextended elbow. The injury isn't considered serious, but Ginobili could miss the series opener versus Memphis.

As the NBA training camps have just started the new-look Miami Heat are the NBA Futures odds favorite to win it all this season.
The Heat are at +160 after being at +180 in the beginning of June. It is easy to see why the Heat are the betting favorites to win it all with the new Big 3 of LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwayne Wade. Miami also signed some good complimentary players, such as Mike Miller, and even though the Heat are stacked they will have a bulls-eye on them all season.
Bovada has the 2-time defending champion Lakers at +250 after being at +300 on July 11th. The Lakers still have Kobe in the fold and even though they lost Jordan Farmer they added Steve Blake, Theo Ratliff, and Matt Barnes and they may be better this season. They won the title last year with the gimpy knees of Andrew Bynum and if he is 100% it will be tough to deny them a 3-peat.
The Magic are at +1000 at Bovada after being at +700 almost three months ago. Orlando kept their core in tact with Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson, Vince Carter, and Rashard Lewis and did not do much in the off-season. They made a key move in keeping J.J. Reddick and they signed Chris Duhon. The Magic are solid, but they have to deal with the new Miami Heat and a Boston team that has Shaq in the middle.
The Diesel is now in Boston and the defending Eastern Conference champions have remained at +1000 at Bovada. The original Big 3 is still in Beantown and as training camp has started Kevin Garnett has looked like he has his explosion back. The Celtics added Shaq and if he has another good season the Celtics can get back to the finals.
The Thunder have remained at +1500 at Bovada and they will be a young and exciting squad, yet again, but Kevin Durant carry them to the title? Oklahoma City was a little thin in the middle last season and they are hoping rookie C Cole Aldrich can give them some toughness inside.

The Mavericks have remained at +1500 at Bovada and the team did re-sign Dirk Nowitzki, but they have a solid core, but getting out of the Western Conference is a bit of a long-shot.
On July 11th the Bulls were at +2500 and now they are at +2000 at Bovada. Chicago lost out on the LeBron sweepstakes, but they did get a gem in Carlos Boozer and they also signed sharpshooter Kyle Korver. The Bulls will likely be better than they were last season, but getting out of the East with Miami, Boston, and Orlando is a tall task to say the least.
