We attended as a guest of LEGOLAND

“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…”

There was a magical land made of millions of tiny plastic toy bricks, built for one very special reason, to bring kids and families lots of joy! LEGOLAND California Resort is a 128-acre resort with over 60 interactive rides, shows, and attractions as well as delicious restaurants, all geared for families and kids ages 2-12 years of age.

Today was a very special day for our family for many reasons, but I’ll start with me. As a kid, I loved toys, and for me there simply was no greater toy then Lego’s. I loved STAR WARS and now as a grown up and father of two boys I have yet to grow out of loving both of these. All this being said, it gives me great joy that my 2 1/2-year-old son Maverick has grown to love STAR WARS and Lego’s!

The Force Awakened for my family today, and especially for me and my young Jedi padawan learner Maverick. We embarked on an epic journey south to catch the first look at the LEGO Death Star at San Diego’s LEGOLAND.

LEGOLAND is home to the STAR WARS Miniland that is a miniature land of awesomeness. It features seven of the most famous scenes from the six live action Star Wars films, all made out of 1.5 million LEGO bricks built in 1:20 scale. In the first Star Wars film, Darth Vader said, “Don’t be too proud of this technological terror you’ve constructed.” Contrary to Darth’s quote, the LEGO version of the Death Star is absolutely incredible. The planet shaped LEGO model, made out of more than half million LEGO bricks, stands 13-feet high, 8-feet wide and weighs more than 1900 pounds. The LEGO Death Star is the largest LEGO model added to the LEGOLAND Star Wars Miniland.

We spent most the afternoon at Legoland and absolutely loved our experience. The resort is perfect for young kids, and our son Maverick loved every minute of it. The highlight, of course, was the Star Wars Miniland media event. It was complete with a live Star Wars band playing all the classic star wars theme songs, yummy pretzels, cookies, fruit, and a coffee bar. One of the most memorable memories for both myself and Maverick was the grand entrance of Darth Vader and his stormtroopers who dramatic invaded the event to reveal the battleship known at the Death Star. My little Jedi Maverick wouldn’t stop talking about how he got to hi-five a stormtrooper the whole way home.

The new model display also features the famous trench run scene where Luke Skywalker maneuvered his X-wing fighter through the combat zone to destroy the Death Star. Below the LEGO Death Star, guests are invited to use their imagination to construct their own LEGO starships at building stations while LEGO X-Wings, Tie Fighters and Y-Wings circle overhead.

The unveiling of the new LEGO Death Star kicked-off the fan favorite, LEGOLAND Star Wars Days on March 7th and 8th, where guests can spend the day participating in Star Wars™ related activities. LEGO Star Wars Miniland Death Star Model Display is included in the cost of admission to LEGOLAND California Resort.
