Distance from what? The question itself is meaningless.

Well if you’re a man, and the distance is measured from your dick to a very attractive pussy, you would say, “Zero distance!”

If you’re a heterosexual man, and the distance is measured from your asshole to a dick, you would say, “Keep this thing as far from my ass as possible”. But if you’re gay, you would say, “Zero distance”.

My cousin is a clinical psychologist, she works for a mental hospital. I have visited her at work many times. One day I say a man standing in a corridor, he was dressed in pajamas; he was also laughing uncontrollably. “What is so funny?”, I asked him. “Laughing without a reason is so liberating, you should try it some day”, he said.
When I met my cousin, I asked her about the laughing man. “Jim is used to be a very intelligent man; in fact, he was a mathematics professor at Cornell University. An insane person, for instance, hears voices in his head although there is no apparent reason why he should hear them. Another example of doing things for no reason would be a paranoid fear of being tortured and killed by the Soviet secret agents, which was happening to LRH.

What is a “dangerous environment producing sufficient amusement“? It is impossible to say with certainty what this phrase means, although I suspect that LRH was referring to an amusement park. Would you try to touch his palm again when he puts it up for the second time? If you’re a normal grown-up, you will see this procedure as a some kind of silly joke and do nothing. An infant might try to touch the palm couple of times, but then she would give up, and so would a pet.
However, a mentally ill person will try to touch the palm again and again because he thinks that he will gain something by going through this idiotic procedure. In fact, some psychiatrists use this method to determine a patient’s intelligence; obviously the most stupid ones will try to strike the doctor’s palm numerous time, as LRH did.

Schizophrenics are known for their obsessive-compulsive behavior such as nonstop cleaning of the teeth, untying of shoe laces, etc. some of them try to convince themselves that they do these things on a self-determined basis, as LRH did (he couldn’t stop blowing bubbles out of his nose even when he tried to). A lot of schizophrenics, including LRH, complain about not being themselves, they think that there is some other entity inside them, which is true self; however this entity cannot reveal itself because its nemesis, whoever it night be, is preventing it from doing so. Thus these mentally ill people suffer from what is sometimes called split personality disorder. This is a relatively mild condition that could be cured by the medications.
However, LRH suffered from much more serious condition called false association -- he thought that other people such as MD’s, his followers, etc., are parts of him, as the analysis of the last phrase shows. Take a close look at the phrase “or any life around him to be some other being”. This is a clear indication of the state of great confusion that LRH was in -- he could not distinguish himself from other individuals. We do not know how long this condition lasted and how frequent it was, but when it was present LRH couldn’t function normally and make meaningful statements.

Practically everyone would say, I am here in the room with you”. The answer, “I am there” is incomplete because it doesn’t reveal location of the person, no one would use it. This shows that the Founder’s linguistic skills have deteriorated to such degree that he was expecting some individuals to reply to his question in such manner that makes no sense to anyone except for himself.

LRH was a very bad naval officer, his job performance was unsatisfactory, as his naval records show. That made him feel inadequate, he needed some kind of explanation of his poor job performance, so he convinced himself that he was a bad navy officer because he didn’t want to be like his father. As I wrote before, LRH’s dad was very abusive to him. But this has nothing to do with the Founder’s inability to serve his country during the World War II.
