I am always looking for new ways to save our family money, and the easier that process is, the better. Although things like mail in rebates and clipping coupons are wonderful, I definitely do not have the spare time it takes to fully devote myself to these type of money saving methods. I need concise convenience and I seem to have found that in ScanLife.

ScanLife is a free app for iPhone and Android, which allows users to scan QR codes, barcodes and UPC codes to receive up to date product information and prices. By simply scanning a product’s UPC code, ScanLife users can instantly view a list of product prices from both nearby brick and mortar stores and online retailers. Consumers can even show the lowest price to a cashier at stores that offer price matching and instantly receive the lowest price possible. App users can also read real product reviews and receive valuable coupons in real time, saving them both money and effort.

ScanLife has recently been reinvented and is now better than ever! It was venture funded and supported by Google and Motorola to provide users with personalized discounts, deals and promotions, based on past scanning activity and selected categories of interest. Users can scan QR code or UPC code and choose to receive hyper-targeted incentives, coupons and other deals from among thousands of national and local stores. They can also select from a dozen product categories on the My Interests page to receive recommended product offers in health and beauty, food and drink, automotive, travel and tourism, and more, enabling the user to be in full control of the offers they receive. All offers are received as messages within the app so you will never be bothered when you’re busy and users can select the frequency (daily, weekly or monthly) that messages are received.

I found the entire concept of this app particularly intriguing since everything is done through my phone and my phone is something that is always with me. I took a moment to download the ScanLife app for my iPhone and began by scanning a new DVD I recently got for my nephew. ScanLife was able to scan the UPC code without me having to push a single button and quickly brought up a list of price comparisons. That single scan immediately made me fall in love with the idea of scanning an item and seeing if the current store I was shopping in actually offered the lowest available price. This can come in handy while in the grocery store shopping for standard items like milk, bread, and canned goods, as well as when making a larger product purchase, such as a new television, video game or set of luggage. Saving money is saving money and I want to keep as many pennies in my pocket as possible regardless of the situation.

I then customized the My Interests section by ranking the provided categories one through five in order of interest. Since we enjoy eating out, but usually choose to dine in unless I spot a restaurant related deal or offer, I ranked Food and Drink category a five. I also chose to list the Lifestyle and Home section a five since we will be selling our current home and purchasing a new one within the next few months and I know I will be looking for new home decor items.

Once I browsed my personalized ScanLife Deals I was pleasantly surprised by what was available. I spotted a nifty trunk organizer to keep all of your goodies from spilling everywhere (super necessary with a small SUV without an actual trunk) for just $18. I also noticed a few deals on house cleaning, which I feel is a must prior to moving into whatever new home we purchase.

If the price comparisons and exclusive deal offers weren’t enough, ScanLife users can also earn mobile points or mPoints for doing activities like checking their ScanLife inbox, selecting their categories of interest, connecting to Facebook and browsing new deals. These points can be redeemed for real rewards such as gift cards from iTunes, Starbucks, Amazon, and other online retailers, charitable donations or fun merchandise. You can actually be rewarded for saving money!

With all of the many features, money saving options and rewards, I can definitely see myself falling in love with ScanLife.
