STOUMBIS, GEORGE C. passed away on September 30th, at the age of 84. Born in 1928 in Minot, North Dakota, George enlisted in the Army in 1946 and served in the Army of occupation in Japan. Upon returning from the service, he attended college and became a teacher, eventually earning PhD in education from the University of Oregon in 1964. In 1969, he came to the University of New Mexico's college of education. During his time at UNM he worked with the teacher education program, Brazilian Ministry of Education, developed a doctoral seminar and served as chairman of North Central Association, evaluating and accrediting schools across the US and Europe. Over the years, he developed passions for gourmet cooking, travel and meeting people. In his lifetime, he had the opportunity to shape the lives of countless people, none more than his sons, Steven of Phoenix, AZ, and Markos of Las Vegas, NV.
