We are OASD! Mike Bretl, a teacher at Silver Lake is in need of our help. Mike and his wife recently welcomed beautiful twins into their family just as he experienced a sudden medical issue which has left Mike and his wife with unexpected monetary stress.  District staff have set up a GoFundMe page in hopes to help the family out during this trying time. School Board Meeting Notes

FOA Committee Report: The board reviewed a revised potential lot layout for the Meadow View Elementary school property. If voters approve the November 8 referendum, and the district is able to build a new school on the proposed Hwy P site, the existing Meadow View property is under consideration to be subdivided.  After an initial review from the Finance, Advancement and Operations Committee, a potential lot layout was revised to reflect the changes suggested by the committee.  This layout would be subject to the necessary approvals and zoning changes by the Town of Oconomowoc and County approvals as well, so it is considered very preliminary.  The Board is still evaluating all options at this point.

John Flannery presented the Summer School wrap up. Approximately 70 remedial, enrichment, and recreational summer school opportunities were provided for 2,290 in-district, and 75 out-of-district students in grades 4K-12 in 2016.

Dr. Derick Kiger presented the 2016-17 Student Assessment Schedule of state-mandated and local assessments.  Wisconsin schools will continue to give the Forward Exam (3—8, 10), ACT Aspire (9, 10) and ACT / WorkKeys (11) as part of the WSAS. Click here to view the schedule.

The Student Health Assessment and Student Wellness report was presented by the District of Nursing Services, Lindsay Wojtasiak.  Click here to view the report.

Director of Human Resources Pam Casey presented a hiring report. The District hired the following new-to-district staff: 1 administrator, 36 teachers, 1 administrative assistant, 6 custodians, and 21 paraprofessionals.

The OAC implemented a new online Ticketing System.

The board approved the Youth Options requests of students to attend classes as part of the Youth Options Program for the 2016-17 spring semester.

OHS was the Showcase school at Tuesday night's school board meeting and the topic was reading! Mrs. Anders, Mrs. Dorn, Ms. Olles, Ms. Welsh, and Mrs. Werchowski shared about the Book Club reading goals established this summer and how reading with UDL principles in mind prepares kids for the rigors of college reading requirements. Students shared how their love for reading grew as they set challenge goals for reading. Student presenters were Nate Sitzberger, Sophia Whitsitt, Parker Jensen. Click here for a photo.

Oconomowoc High School
The Oconomowoc Rotary presented a scholarship on October 17 to one of OHS's top students, Mr. Elliot Spear.  Elliot has proven himself to be an exceptional student committed to academic excellence throughout his high school career. He has taken nearly every Advanced Placement social studies course OHS offers along with a variety of transcripted credit and International Baccalaureate coursework. Elliot’s optimism, work ethic and goodwill is evident not only in the classroom but in everything he puts in mind to.  Elliot is an incredibly strong individual who will not let any obstacles stop him from his goals. He is an advocate for everyone living with muscular dystrophy and an inspiration to all who have endured adversity in their life. For these reasons and many more, we are confident Elliot is bound for success as he plans to pursue a degree in education and history at the University Wisconsin – Whitewater next fall. Congratulations, Elliot!  Click here for a photo.
