Facilities Update

The community survey is now closed. Results will be presented on May 18 at the OAC, 6:30 p.m.

All parents, staff and community members are encouraged to join us for this important presentation. Bill Foster from the independent research firm School Perceptions, LLC will review community feedback and provide insight into what the data means for the district’s long range facilities planning. School Board Update

Director of Business Services presented the 2016-17 Budget Proposal. The tax levy will increase by 2.54% to $51.3 million, which results in a mill rate increase of $0.01 to $10.06 per $1,000 of equalized property value. Last  year the mill rate was $10.05. OASD has the 8th lowest mill rate of area Waukesha County school districts and is $0.19 below the state average. Click here to view the complete budget proposal.

School board member Kim Herro took her ceremonial oath of office, and school board member Steve Zimmer took his prior to the May 3 school board meeting. Both Kim Herro and Steve Zimmer will serve three year terms.

Board President Don Wiemer was re-elected as president, board Member Sandy Schick was re-elected as vice president, board member John Suttner was elected treasurer, board member Mike Bickler was re-elected as clerk and Sue Snyder was re-elected as deputy clerk.

The school board approved changes to the district health insurance plan and carrier, effective July 1, 2016.

The school board approved the 2016-17 compensation plan for teachers, effective July 1, 2016.

Director of Human Resources Pam Casey presented a staffing plan report  with changes in staffing and class sizes.

School Notes

On May 3, family and friends came out to attend the OASD Jazz night. The SLI and NHI 6th grade jazz bands, 7th & 8th grade jazz bands, OHS jazz 1, jazz 2 and jazz combo groups performed amazing pieces for all to enjoy. Greenland:

Greenland Elementary 3rd and 4th grade students had a fun time participating in Play 60 after school yesterday. Thank you to Mrs. Kreinus, Mrs. Harper, Mrs. O'Leary, and Mr. Grunewald for organizing this great after school activity.  Click here for photos.

The Greenland Stars had a wonderful Greenland Gathering. Their theme for the month is "Celebrate Us." Students shared ways that Greenland students and families say good morning in their homes. They also learned about Cinco de Mayo. Click here for photos.

Ixonia:

On April 28, Ixonia Elementary students celebrated Arbor Day with a brief ceremony and the planting of a new tree! Ixonia Elementary was contacted by the City of Oconomowoc as their chosen site to donate a new tree. The school selected a beautiful Flowering Crabapple tree for the front of the building. Staff and students can’t wait to see it flower! Click here for a photo.

Meadow View:

Congratulations to all the Meadow View students that helped raise $1,625 during the school’s recent Coin Drive service project for the Humane  Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County.  As a reward Meadow View’s Principal, Jason Schreiber, will get a Mohawk at the end of May.  The big date...May 26!   Great job everyone!

Park Lawn:

Mrs. Sweet’s 1st grade class recently shared their realistic fiction series books with Mrs. Trame’s kindergarten class this week. The kindergartners were very excited to visit a first grade classroom and hear their awesome series stories. Great work!

Summit:

Summit 4K students recently dressed up for a Nursery Rhyme Day Friday. They have been learning and practicing nursery rhymes all year and each student chose one to dress up for and recite on the Summit stage.‪  Click here for photos.

This year one of NHI’s very own staff, Michelle Hagen, will be a ProHealth Care 2016 LakeWalk for Cancer Ambassador at the May 7 annual fundraising walk. The money raised at the LakeWalk for Cancer benefits cancer patients and patient care in many ways. The staff at NHI is forming a team to walk together, raise money and support their colleague who is very much loved.  Click here to learn more about Michelle.

Silver Lake Intermediate:

It's a Bird! It's a Plane! No, It's Superhero Week at Silver Lake Intermediate School! Teachers are able to fly to the teacher's lounge for a daily dose of Super Power. Staff became Super Hero's and students wrote about their favorite Superhero staff members! Click here for photos.

Silver Lake Intermediate had 42 new members join the National Junior Honor Society on Friday, April 29th, at Silver Lake Intermediate School. Joining us were friends, family and siblings celebrating the members’ achievements in leadership, service, character, citizenship and scholarship.

Best-selling author and 2003 OHS graduate, Amy Kavelaris, spoke with 6th grade classes during the morning of April 26. This was a unique opportunity for the students to meet with an author of a beautiful children’s book with an important message, as they set out to draft their own fiction picture books.  Click here for photos.

Oconomowoc Rotary honored more than 90 Oconomowoc High School National Honor Society members at a recent luncheon, with a special guest speaker and recognition of the James W. Schmitz Math and Science Awards winners. Scholarship recipients included Maxwell Roth, awarded $1,200, and Timothy Schick, Rebecca Hoehn, Luke Schwerer and Gabrielle Rohrer, awarded $700 each.  Click here for a photo.
