Mark is an artist with over fifty years of experience as a painter, sculptor and printmaker. For the past two years, he has been exploring kiln fired glass, and this new medium has encouraged him to use his skills as a designer and move in a different direction. He will be showing both functional bowls, platters and plates as well as sculptures which float above the wall’s surface, allowing for interesting shadow play as well as brilliant colors and reflective surfaces. His series of abstract landscapes in acrylic on canvas were produced for an exhibition in Los Angeles earlier this year and are being shown for the first time in the Bay area. Inspired by a series of large paintings commissioned in 2016, these smaller artworks employ bold color and evocative forms to bring the viewer into fantasy worlds where anything is possible.
Gretchen Greene is another seasoned Bay area artist whose paintings and unique pieces of jewelry have been exhibited in the region for many years. Each necklace exhibited is a singular creation combing carnelian, copal, antique silver beads and carved bone elements from Nepal and the far east. Over the course of any years, Gretchen has been accumulating precious items from many sources and, over time, these elements have found their way into these unique pieces of wearable art. Visitors to the gallery will be able to try on her works – and then have to decide if they can leave without them!
