2013-08-07

I want you to take a moment, a brief moment, to inhale deeply and smell all the yumminess that is about to happen this weekend.  Yes my fellow bay areans it is gonna be that kind of weekend.  The kind of weekend where there is an overwhelming amount of greatness happening the YaY!  Choose your particular cup of tea whether it is kink, fashion, food or festival, both sides of the Bay are crackalackin’!  But before you start to peruse the tasty menu of events this weekend I wanted to give a shout out to my friend and part of my Bay Area family Charleen Caabay, affectionately known to her friends as Chikun!  Back in March I featured her in This Weekend in the YaY! Area thru March 28 speaking to her about her quest (and believe me it was a quest) to open up her first restaurant.  FIVE months later she has just passed her final inspection and she will be having a soft opening of the restaurant on Wednesday, August 14th starting at 11 a.m. and going until late.  Kainbigan’s new spot is located at 2101 14th Ave in Oakland.  If you have a chance stop by grab some grub and tell her congratulations!  If you can’t make it you can catch her serving her slice of yummy at the Laurel Street Fair.

Back for the 5th year! The fat-friendly, gender-inclusive clothing and bake sale returns in August. Presented jointly by Big Moves Bay Area, friends of NOLOSE, and the Fat Friendly Funders, we’re so proud that this bonanza of fat fashion and fellowship is becoming a Bay Area institution.

Accessibility Information: The entrance to the sale is on 28th Street, through the garden. There is a small parking lot on the side of the garden towards Telegraph Avenue, and we ask that people leave the parking spaces in the lot for people who need closer, more accessible parking. Once in the garden, there is a path down to a ramp on the left; the ramp is the main entrance to the sale and will be festooned accordingly. Inside, we’ll have some armless seats and volunteers on hand to help you shop, carry clothes, etc!

The Humanist Hall has two gender-free bathrooms, one of which is accessible but may have a sink-height issue. The shared dressing room is also gender-free.
