Assistant U.S. Attorney In New York’s Southern District To Oversee Bureaus Responsible For Social Justice

Well-Known Antitrust Litigator Selected To Lead Team Charged With Enforcing New York’s Antitrust Laws

NEW YORK – Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman today announced the appointments of Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. to serve as Executive Deputy Attorney General for Social Justice and Eric J. Stock as Chief of the Attorney General’s Antitrust Bureau. Both are among New York State’s top lawyers and will add to the Attorney General’s Office a wealth of knowledge and experience from their respective fields.

As Executive Deputy Attorney General for Social Justice, Mr. Bragg will oversee the division’s six bureaus, including Charities, Labor, Civil Rights, Tobacco Compliance, Environmental Protection and Health Care. He will have a major role directing the Office’s pursuit of legal action related to these areas in support of equal rights.

Mr. Bragg is an Assistant United States Attorney in the United States Attorney’s Office in New York’s Southern District. In this role, he has investigated and prosecuted white collar and street crimes, as well as labor and civil rights cases, including a matter regarding violations of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrance Act. His background in social justice also extends to his tenure with the New York City Council serving as the Chief of Litigation and Investigations, where he was involved in cases concerning policy areas such as affordable housing, education and collective bargaining.

In his role as Chief of the Antitrust Bureau, Mr. Stock will be charged with enforcing New York State laws prohibiting anticompetitive business practices, and representing the interests of New York and New York consumers in national antitrust matters. Mr. Stock will lead a bureau that has been highly effective in ensuring that New York consumers and local businesses receive the benefits of full and fair competition.

Mr. Stock is an antitrust litigation partner at the international law firm of Hogan Lovells. He is a well-known leader in the antitrust legal community, and currently serves as Chairman of the Antitrust Section of the New York State Bar Association. He also serves in the leadership of the ABA Antitrust Section, and is regularly listed by leading legal publications as among the top “rising stars” in the nation for antitrust litigation.

Mr. Bragg received his A.B. from Harvard University, cum laude, and his J.D. from Harvard Law School. Prior to serving the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the New York City Council’s Office, he was an Assistant Attorney General with the Public Integrity Bureau of the New York State Attorney General’s Office. He also served as law clerk for the Honorable Robert P. Patterson, Jr., U.S. District Judge, Southern District of New York.

Mr. Stock received his B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, summa cum laude, and his J.D. from Harvard Law School, magna cum laude. He served as law clerk for the late Honorable Allen G. Schwartz, U.S. District Judge, Southern District of New York.
