Cuomo’s minimum wage nonprofit through the lens of his new regulatory scheme: Recent legislation requires more reporting of donors to nonprofit advocacy groups and reporting of some of their previously private communication, Gotham Gazette writes. Cuomo calls the bill an historic stand against dark money, the influence of Super PACs, and the Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision that opened up the floodgates for major secretive political donations. On the other hand, many reform advocates believe the bill is both a strange mix of regulations and ones that do very little to address areas where there has been real corruption in New York.

Public Advocate Letitia James declares win in suit against city over air conditioned school buses for special needs students: The dog days of summer may be coming to an end, but Letitia James is still fighting the city for failing to cool more than 400 school buses that transport kids with special needs, the Daily News writes. On Tuesday, James claimed a legal victory when the State Supreme Court ruled that a lawsuit James brought against the city last year can move forward.

Access to after-school programs remains a problem in low-income communities, report finds: A study released by the Afterschool Alliance, a national advocacy group finds that despite national efforts to improve access to after-school programs, many children, particularly in poor neighborhoods, still don’t have seats, Chalkbeat writes.

NONPROFITS IN THE NEWS

Inside the building, the milk is available for purchase at what is commonly known as the milk bar, The Daily Orange writes. The milk has been sold from inside that building since 1952 and is operated by a nonprofit organization, New York State Dairy Exhibits Inc.

It includes a series of immersive performances and environments promises to bring to life the horrifying realities of the 2016 presidential election, genetically modified foods, all powerful corporations, inescapable surveillance and the collapse of the biosphere.

Bed-Stuy residents tell city to stop 'dumping' homeless shelters there: Bedford-Stuyvesant residents and business leaders are rallying against a proposed drop-in center for homeless people on Bedford Avenue that they say will be a magnet for trouble, Gothamist reports. The new facility would be less than a block from an elementary school in a district that currently contains 13 shelters, and some argue that this latest proposal - in a zip code that is three quarters African American - is further evidence of the city's tendency to concentrate social services facilities in minority neighborhoods.
