More nursing homes in region are receiving lowest possible federal rating: One in three nursing homes in Western New York received the lowest possible score in the latest ratings from the federal government, a marked increase from a year ago, The Buffalo News reports.The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services gave a 1-star rating to 26 of the region’s 74 nursing homes. Court Refuses to Seal Records of Allegedly-Looted Nonprofit: Ruling in a lawsuit in which the cofounder of a nonprofit seeking restitution for terrorism victims is accusing two officers of treating the organization as a "personal piggy bank," a Nassau County judge rejected a motion to seal the American Center for Civil Justice's accounting records, New York Law Journal reports. The group provided funding for retaining law firms and conducting investigations that would support litigation against Iran, Libya and other foreign sovereigns.

NYC’s municipal ID program a big hit with immigrants and natives alike, de Blasio boasts: More than 863,000 New Yorkers have snagged one of the city's municipal ID cards since the program launched a year and a half ago, data released Thursday show, the Daily News reports. More than half of card holders - 52 percent - use the IDNYC as their primary form of ID, a number that jumps to 67 percent among immigrants, according to the city's survey.

Health Department awards grants to community-based organizations to achieve Take Care New York 2020 goals:
The Health Department and the Fund for Public Health in New York today announced the release of $400,000 in grants to eight community-based organizations in neighborhoods across the city as part of Take Care New York (TCNY) 2020, the agency’s blueprint for creating healthier communities. Building on extensive input that the Health Department received through 28 community consultations across the city, eight organizations have each been awarded $50,000 grants to develop neighborhood health action plans to address local health priorities, such as obesity, smoking, high school graduation, among others. The grantee organizations that will work as TCNY Planning Partners are: The Washington Heights CORNER Project, Public Health Solutions, The Rockaway Waterfront Alliance, The Sunset Park Health Council, The Jewish Community Center of Greater Coney Island, Project Hospitality, The Staten Island Partnership for Community Wellness and The Bronx Northwest Community and Clergy Coalition. They will act as TCNY Planning Partners to help achieve the health equity goals set out in TCNY 2020 by mobilizing community members and developing local action plans to effect change.

Bilingual Case Managers and Clinicians needed in Dobbs Ferry (Westchester County). The primary task of the Case Manager is to ensure the safe and expedited release of UAC to potential sponsors that meet the ORR criteria for release. Case Manager in consultation with Clinicians is responsible for assessing the needs of each UAC in care. Case Manager, along with Clinicians, also develop implement and coordinate Individual Service Plans for UAC. These plans are oriented toward safe family reunification, preparation for return to the country of origin, transfer to a higher level of care or a less restrictive setting, or transition to an alternative living arrangement once legal immigration status has been obtained.

The organization is building an outdoor floating pool that will filter New York City’s water, restoring 600,000 gallons of river water every day and providing a safe space for the city’s residents to swim in the water surrounding the city.

Wandering moose inspires 400-mile NY hiking trail: The A2A Collaborative, an Ontario-based nonprofit conservation group, is using the 400-mile trek of a radio-collared moose named Alice as inspiration for a proposed hiking trail from Ontario’s forested Algonquin Park to the heart of New York’s Adirondack Mountains, The Press & Sun Bulletin reports.
Community Preservation Corp. opens office in Buffalo: The Community Preservation Corp., a national nonprofit affordable housing and community revitalization finance company, has opened a new Western New York regional office in Buffalo’s Allentown neighborhood, as it seeks to expand its presence and activity in supporting local housing projects, The Buffalo News reports. The new office at 534 Delaware Avenue will be led by Michael DeWitt, who joined the organization as senior vice president and regional director to lead its efforts in the region by working with local developers, community partners and government agencies to finance multi-family housing projects.
First round of grants awarded from Wilson Foundation endowments: The Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo on announced $250,000 in grants to 19 Western New York organizations from endowment funds from the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation, The Buffalo News reports. Last November, the Wilson Foundation announced $7 million in endowments in the areas of youth sports, cancer care and cultural tourism, as well as for the Hunter’s Hope Foundation, the Western New York Amateur Football Alliance and the Community Foundation of Greater Buffalo. The awards announced Thursday came from the youth sports, cancer care and cultural tourism funds.
