As wine drinker, I am always happy to try to new wines. Recently, I was sent two bottles of wine to test out from the Spain region: Hito 2014 and Malleollus 2015 both from award winning winery Bodegas Emilio Moro in Ribera del Duero.

Bodegas Emilio Moro Malleoulus 2011

The Malleoulus 2011 is made of 100% Tempranillo from vines 12-25 years old in which the grapes are macerated for 28 days on the skins and spend 15 months in new French and American oak before being bottled. According to the enologists, the 2011 was declared “the best vintage of the decade” and I would agree. My friends all agreed that the Malleoulus 2011 offered an outstanding quality, a delicious fruit aroma and a delightful oak flavor. It was just perfect taste. It is definitely a bolder wine that is appropriate with dinner or for pre-dinner appetizer course. A definite recommendation by all. Fun fact:  “Malleoulus” comes from the Latin word meaning majuelo (small vineyard), a way of referring to the vineyards in Pesquera de Duero. Suggested retail price: $44.99.  www.emiliomoro.com

Bodegas Cepa 21’s Hito 2014

Hito 2014 presents itself with a very intense, bright cherry red color offering the black fruits of Tinto Fino. We found the Hito 2014 a truly intense, almost too intense as a simple drinking wine. It was that full bodied of a wine. It definitely was a much better choice to drink it with chocolate and strong cheese appetizers. www.cepa21.com

Happy Holidays!
