Thursday, November 28, is Thanksgiving Day.

Government offices, including the Department of Motor Vehicles, are closed. Courts are also closed. There is no mail delivery.

Public schools are closed Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29.

On Thursday, November 28, alternate side parking is suspended. You do not need to pay parking meters. No stopping, no standing and no parking regulations are suspended except where those regulations are in effect seven days a week or at all times.

There is no garbage or recycling pick-up. If Thursday is your regular garbage collection day, put your garbage out after 4 PM Thursday evening. If Thursday is your regular recycling day, wait until next week to put out your recyclables.

The Staten Island Ferry runs on a holiday schedule. Boats run every 30 minutes between 7 AM and 11 PM. Normal service resumes after 11 PM.

All branches of the New York (Manhattan, Bronx, Staten Island), Brooklyn, and Queens library systems are closed.

Friday, November 29, the day after Thanksgiving, is not an official holiday.

Public schools are closed.

Government offices, including the Department of Motor Vehicles, are open. New York City and State courts are also open. Mail delivery follows a regular schedule.

Alternate side parking regulations and meters are in effect. 

Garbage pick-up follows a regular schedule. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, complaints about missed garbage and recycling pickup will not be accepted on Friday, November 29.

If you have Thursday garbage pick-up, you can leave your trash out until it is picked up. It will probably be collected on Friday, November 29. In some areas, your garbage may not be picked up on your next regular collection day.

The Staten Island Ferry follows a normal weekday schedule.
