No one was sure what would be the fate of Marc Jacobs' many West Village stores when news came that Marc by Marc Jacobs would be shutting down—although soon after, the designer said in an interview that he "likes the concept of multiple stores, particularly in the West Village," therefore implying that while the stores may not don Marc by Marc Jacobs awnings, they could be replaced by new Marc Jacobs-owned concepts.
However, the Shophound now reports that the former Marc by Marc Jacobs accessories store at 301 West 4th Street—arguably the most gorgeous storefront of the bunch—has closed as of a few weeks ago. The brand's store locator also no longer lists the outpost. No word on what will replace it, but we've reached out for comment and will update when we hear back.
It isn't the first time the brand has gone back on its plans for New York City stores: In February 2014, it was announced that a Marc by Marc Jacobs flagship would open on Fifth Avenue, while a new Marc Jacobs Collection store—dubbed a "fantastical MarcLand"—would land on Madison Avenue. Over the past year and a half, neither of the two have opened.
