I am not a morning person. I never have been, and likely never will be. I blame this on early morning (EARLY morning), figure skating practices when you had to be on the ice at 6AM ready to skate for an hour before school. It was brutal and for the life of me I still don’t understand why anyone thinks early morning practices are a good thing. I remember when Braden was born it took a lot for me to adjust being up early, but it seemed like I was up all the time so the actual time on the clock didn’t matter as much. When Braden started sleeping through the night and would sleep longer and longer…the happier and happier I became. I also remember the time in his life when if he got up before 8 I would be pretty grumpy about it…then slowly he got up earlier and earlier even in the 5 o’clock hour for awhile which mama bear did NOT like. Now we are at a good spot with both boys that mommy doesn’t get out of bed any earlier than 7. Sometimes Ethan wakes up at 6, but he happily plays in his crib and Braden plays in his room
quietly
until I come to get them.

I have to admit, that even in the 7 o’clock hour I am not a morning person, but I’ve discovered a few tips to help get my non-morning-person-self the best chance at waking up happy!

Clean The Kitchen The Night Before – My sister-in-law gave me this advice years ago and it’s one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever gotten. I don’t always comply, but waking up to a messy kitchen makes me even more grumpy, so having a clean kitchen helps tremendously

Have The Coffee Ready - If you’re not a coffee drinker, I don’t know how you do it (especially if you’re a parent!) but having the coffee on a timer so it’s brewing when I get up, or having it all ready and just having to press “brew” is a big mood booster for me!

Keep Routines Simple – Braden has his yogurt and Ethan has his milk while I get their breakfasts ready and it helps to get them fed fast so they can play and I can have my coffee time. We have a great hot water setting on our coffee machine so I can have boiling water almost instantly for their oatmeal – easy!

Run The Dishwasher The Night Before - My morning routine always consists of doing the above items and then unloading the dishwasher. I clean the kitchen after supper, tidy up before bed and run the dishwasher as we go to bed so we don’t have to worry about it until the morning! We love the new Finish® Power & Free™ dishwashing tabs (Quantum®) and they have less harsh chemicals than the Finish® tabs we usually use

Finish® Quantum® isn’t the only product in the Power & Free™ line-up, there’s also  Finish® Powerball® and  Finish® Jet-Dry® available. If you would like a free sample go grab one off the Finish Facebook page and try it for yourself.
