A big crowd turned out for the annual NAB Marconi Awards Dinner & Show Thursday night (9/19) at the Radio Show in Orlando. The pacing of the yearly event was considerably more brisk than in many previous years, thanks in no small part to the talents of the evening’s master of ceremonies, “Shotgun” Tom Kelly. The longtime K-Earth 101/Los Angeles afternoon drive host (pictured) kept things moving as winners in 20 categories were announced, with Grammy Award-winning band The Mavericks providing the evening’s musical entertainment. This year’s winners from the world of News/Talk/Sports radio are: WSOY/Decatur, IL morning host Brian Byers (Medium Market Personality of the Year); WBZ/Boston (News/Talk Station of the Year); KRMG/Tulsa (Medium Market Station of the Year); KTCK/Dallas (Sports/Talk Station of the Year); and WBBM-AM/Chicago (Legendary Station of the Year). Congratulations to all of this year’s nominees and winners, and to NAB EVP/Radio John David, the Executive Producer of the annual gala.
