Dementia Revealed- What primary care needs to know
NHS England in cooperation with the Royal College of GPs and Hardwick CCG have published Dementia Revealed- What primary care needs to know, an educational tool aimed at GPs and practice nurses to support the diagnosis and treatment of dementia. The booklet provides tools to help GPs make timely diagnosis and identify what they can do in terms of vital post-diagnostic support.
CQC inspections of GP practices
NHS England has published guidance for area teams on supporting practices rated inadequate as a result of the Care Quality Commission’s new regime of inspections. The guidance includes details of a peer support pilot for practices placed in special measures.
New GP2GP patient information leaflet available to download
The Health and Social Care Information Centre has produced a GP2GP information leaflet for practices to distribute to their newly registered patients, and/or for publication on their practice website. The leaflet provides information to new patients about the GP2GP process and their electronic health record, as well as answers to some frequently asked questions. Practices can download ‘Transferring your electcronic health record’ from the GP2GP website.
New guidance for Personal Medical Services contract reviews
NHS England has published new guidance for area teams to inform Personal Medical Services contract review discussions. The guidance aims to give greater consistency on timescales for change and ensure that money is reinvested in general practice. Area teams should discuss with their CCGs how any funding released should be used.
Outcome of 2015/16 General Medical Services contract negotiations
The outcome of contract negotiations between NHS Employers and the British Medical Association’s General Practitioners Committee on amendments to GMS contractual arrangements in England from April 2015 have been published.
New handbooks help to boost the skills of primary care professionals
NHS Improving Quality has launched how-to guides to help nursing staff and other health and care professionals improve their skills and knowledge. The Learning Handbook and Intelligence Handbook are concise e-books specifically for individuals and teams working in health and social care. They are designed to meet the needs of busy professionals, equipping them with skills that will help to drive service improvement.
National waiting standards and five year ambition for mental health announced
Together with the Government, NHS England has set out the first waiting time standards for people with mental health conditions and £120 million of further investment in a five year ambition to bring treatment for mental health conditions on a par with physical health. The new waiting time standards include the requirement for 75 per cent of those referred to Improving Access to Psychological Therapies to be seen within six weeks.
Payment of NHS Pension Scheme Contributions – GP1 Online process
During recent months a number of GP practices have not met the deadline for payment of pension contributions for their staff and have been charged interest and an administration charge of £75. To avoid this please ensure that you:
submit payment on Pensions Online by 3pm Friday 14 November for October contributions
press the submit button on the GP1 input screen and wait for the confirmation screen.
Update on Personal Independence Payments
From 17 November, Personal Independence Payments Natural Reassessment is being extended to some existing Disability Living Allowance claimants living in postcode areas for Chester, Huddersfield, Liverpool and Manchester where the claimant:
has an existing fixed term award that is coming to an end
is approaching 16
has a change in care or mobility needs
chooses to claim Personal Independence Payments instead of Disability Living Allowance
Most Disability Living Allowance claimants with a long-term award will not be affected until October 2015 or later.
