Patients are at the centre of new ward inspection regime

The new Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment were introduced with the key purpose of ensuring patients are at the centre of all inspections of hospital environments, and the inspection findings have been published.

NHS services, seven days a week

The NHS Services, Seven Days a Week Forum was established earlier this year by Professor Sir Bruce Keogh, NHS England’s National Medical Director. Supporting the NHS in moving towards more routine services being available seven days a week is a key offer in Everyone Counts: Planning for Patients and an important part of stimulating new, innovative approaches to providing services and ensuring every patient gets the care they need. As a first stage, the Forum is focusing on urgent and emergency care and diagnostics. The Forum is due to report in the autumn.

Diabetes UK Type 2 diabetes campaign

Beginning on 23 September, and supported by NHS England and Public Health England, Diabetes UK is launching the largest ever Type 2 diabetes awareness campaign. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the risk factors of Type 2 diabetes and enable people to understand their risk of developing the condition. Advertising will drive people to Diabetes UK’s online risk score or into pharmacies for an assessment with information on what people should do next, depending on their risk level, and which could include visiting their GP. The charity has written to all GP surgeries across the UK as well as professional organisations to advise about the campaign.

The Driving Up Quality Code

This code has been developed by the provider sector as a response to Winterbourne View. Providers and Commissioners are being invited to sign up to the Code to drive up quality and be open and transparent about what they are doing to meet it.
