The UK's first all-electric car club will soon have over 100 vehicles availabel to its members, increasing its zero-emissions fleet more than seven-fold inside just 18 months.

E-car club is poised to quadruple its fleet from 15 to 60 vehicles and expects a further 50 to be deployed over the next six months across its locations in London, the South East, and the Midlands.

The company launched in October 2013 in Poplar, east London, offering Renault ZOE and Fluence electric cars to residents and businesses.

It has subsequently expanded its offer to include Nissan LEAFs and is also planning to make light commercial vehicles (LCVs) available in the shape of Renault Kangoo ZEs and Nissan eNV200s at locations where there is demand.

The company said there are currently 700 private members and 15 business customers paying from £5.50 an hour to hire electric cars parked in dedicated bays with charge points.

The company's success has enabled it to raise more than £1m from investors, including £500,000 from Centrica-backed social impact fund Ignite.

The latest influx of vehicles is being provided by fleet services company Alphabet, which is supplying 35 electric vehicles - 23 Renault ZOEs, five Nissan LEAFs and seven Renault Kangoo ZE vans.
