We’re just wrapping a bitterly cold long weekend here in Ontario. It was Family Day today and so we spent the weekend cuddled up in the house playing games and watching Full House on Netflix. It was nice so to just lounge around and not feel like we had to do something. We introduced the older kids to the game The Settlers of Catan last weekend and we all enjoyed it so much, that pretty much all we played this weekend. My second oldest had a hard time with the original version, so after playing with him last week we decided it would be a good idea to get Settlers Junior to help break him in and it was a complete success! I’m so glad we got it. It’s such a fun game and so much easier for young minds to grasp. It will definitely come in handy for the other two little boys as well.

Last week you may remember I tried only two new recipes and only one was a success with the kids. The Spaghetti Squash Chow Mein, I found was really good and it hit the spot for me as far as my recent craving for Chinese goes. But it was not a hit with the rest of the family. They all found the fresh ginger and garlic to be too strong, I agreed with them the first night but reheated the flavours really tamed down. I would make it again but make a smaller batch and decrease the amount of fresh ginger and garlic. I also made a Cheeseburger Soup, this was very tasty but it kind of threw my oldest off. She was expecting a taste similar to the cheeseburger casserole I make but it was a bit different and so she wasn’t very co-operative. My husband and I really enjoyed it but as is his custom, my husband had to kick it up a notch with chopped dill pickles and pickled jalapeno’s, which I have to admit did make it an entirely different soup, and it was really yummy.

I also made a delicious gluten free bread this weekend, and it actually turned out! I was so surprised! My last attempt at a gluten-free bread failed miserably and I ended up throwing it out so I am so glad this one turned out well. I made this Hearty Quinoa Bread from Cooking Quinoa and it is indeed very hearty but it has a nice a flavour and will be perfect for having my much-anticipated avocado and tomato sandwich!

No new recipes this week though, I thought I’d better give the kids a break from anything new and revisit some new and old favourites. So on the meal plan for this week is:

Monday – Pad Thai (That we didn’t get to have last week)

Tuesday – Basa Filets, Rice and a veggie

Wednesday – Chickpea Tikka Masala (we really enjoyed this one)

Thursday – Taco Soup

Friday – Ravioli Bake (I’m going to try and get some gluten free ravioli for myself)

Saturday – Chicken Fajitas

Sunday – Pizza/Sausage and Veggie Stir Fry

Should be another great food week! What will you be having?
