As always, don’t forget to check out the Quick Recap Section at the bottom of the post for a full listing of all upcoming events, including those previously covered in previous posts.

A great way to connect your kids with the natural world around them, the Bermuda National Trust presents its Annual Children’s Nature Walk at Spittal Pond on Thursday, February 16th.

Spittal Pond is one of Bermuda’s most spectacular open spaces, this 64-acre reserve is part of a necklace of wetlands along the South Shore, providing a diversity of habitats and an amazing variety of birds, especially during the migration seasons. It is Bermuda’s largest and most important bird sanctuary.

Children and guardians will have the opportunity to experience nature first hand on the walk, as well as observe some of our cultural landmarks while they hear fascinating stories from the past. They will be taken along the route by the Trust’s enthusiastic guides stopping at points of interest to learn about biodiversity, habitats, history, geology and conservation from the island’s leading environmental and cultural experts.

This is for parents and children aged between 5 and 12, running from 9.30am until noon, with groups leaving the eastern parking lot every 15 minutes.  The walk takes approximately 90 minutes so you should wear suitable clothes and shoes for rugged terrain.  Light snacks are available and you are invited to bring your own water bottle that they can fill.

The walk is not suitable for dogs, baby prams or very young children. Parking is available in the field behind Harrington Hundreds grocery store.

The Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA) invite you to join them to Re-Discover the Rail Trail on Sunday, March 5th.

It’s the perfect time to re-imagine how we use this spectacular stretch of public space to improve the health and wellness of our community and the island experience of our visitors.

If it has ever been possible to find something that has always been there – the Bermuda Rail Trail is that thing. It’s steeped in history as a defunct transport service, but alive again in the Bermuda lifestyle – providing recreation areas for young families, a training ground for sports enthusiasts and miles of adventure for the explorers who live amongst us and others who come to visit.

Even with the Rail Trail’s new lease on life as a sport and adventure playground, it hasn’t reached its full potential – not by a long shot.

They’ll start with a beautiful section of the trail in Hamilton Parish between Shelly Bay and Bailey’s Bay.  From 10am until 5pm, you can expect a day of fun outdoor activities and excitement, infused with a dash of local culture and history.  It promises to be a day not to be missed.

Organising partners are the Bermuda Tourism Authority, Bermuda Department of Health, Bermuda Department of Parks, Hamilton Parish Council, Friends of the Railway Trail, Bailey’s Bay Cricket Club, and Argus.

You are also invited to mark your calendar for the fourth quarter when they take their Re-Discovery tour to the Rail Trail in the west end. It’s all part of the BTA’s mission to re-imagine a modern Rail Trail that is year-round and filled with adventure.

The experiences and demos at this event are free, with food available for purchase.

For more information, contact experiences@bermudatourism.com or visit www.GoToBermuda.com.

Contributions towards sinking or saving your favourite hostage be made right up until the day of the event online at www.pTix.bm or by calling Bermuda Sloop Foundation at 737-5667.  All funds raised from this event help ensure the continued operation of Bermuda Sloop Foundation’s Expeditionary Learning Programmes on board Sail Training Vessel Spirit of Bermuda, and student voyage bursaries.
