Well, I’m back – did you miss me? Did you even notice I was gone? Ah well, it is technically Fall now but you’d never know with the beautiful weather we are having on our evergreen island. To wrap up the Police Week 2016 events, The Bermuda Police Service will be hosting a Charity Casino Night on Friday, October 7th
This will start at 6pm at the Police Recreation Club in Prospect and guests must be over 18. The ticket price includes a buffet dinner and a complimentary drink.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased from the Police Recreation Club, The Commissioners Office or they can be delivered. The proceeds of this event will be share between their two 2016/17 Police Week Charities, Special Olympics Bermuda and The Family Centre.

The Bermuda Society For The Blind invite you to join them at a Technology Fair and Presentations in celebration of World Sight Day on Saturday, October 8th.
From 10am until 4pm at BUEI, you can try devices like computers that talk and magnifiers that enlarge up to 75X, view talking watches, large print playing cards, and products that make cooking safe. You can order items that you would like to purchase and payment by cash or cheque is required with your order.
There will also be opportunities to meet people who use assistive technology and specially designed products everyday.
Two presentations will also take place in BUEI’s Tradewinds Auditorium. At 11am, Diabetes and How It Can Affect Vision will be presented by Sara McKittrick, Diabetes Educator, Bermuda Diabetes Association and Dr. V. C. Parthasarathy, Bermuda International Eye Institute, Ltd. Then at 1pm, National Library Staff will host a presentation on How To Download Free Audio Books.

Everyone is invited to throw back to the Disco era this October – for those of you who lived in Bermuda in the 80s, come and relive your youth at the Disco 40 Pop Up on Saturday, October 8th.
For others who have no idea what this is, you are invited to pack the place and dance the night away at an awesome night of throwback music from the late 70s and 80s from 9pm until 3am at Docksiders. There will be a cash bar and food available to buy throughout the night to stave off those munchies when they hit. Arrive early for dinner and you will receive 10% off your bill.

Join in the fun at a special girls only event to mark the UN International Day of the Girl on Sunday, October 9th.
From 2pm until 5pm at National Sports Centre and Pool (North Field), you can learn about challenges that girls face here and around the globe as the largest demographic facing poverty.
There will also be opportunities to try new activities, including diving and sailing, so you are invited to bring a swimsuit and towel. The activities have been mainly selected to expose girls to traditionally boy sports and STEM, including coding, robotics and auto-technology. You can come for any part of the afternoon and try everything.

The Bermuda Arts Centre invites you to their latest show, The Team Returns, opening on Sunday, October 9th.
The Bermuda Arts Centre is the only gallery in Bermuda that has four working studios. This allows visitors to converse with local artists and witness forms of art being created. The Team Returns features new work created by their four studio artists – Nahed Eid, Christopher Marson, Christopher Grimes and Chesley Trott.
Nahed Eid works with Mixed Media. She takes bits and pieces of discarded every day items and turns them into functional art pieces. Her pieces are embellished with semi precious stones and wire. Whoever thought that a mere cork screw could actually turn into an amazing functional piece of art?
Christopher Marson works with Watercolour/Gouache/Oil. Although known as one of Bermuda’s leading watercolourists, Christopher is not afraid to try any and every media. From his calming watercolours to vibrant oils, Christopher takes his viewers through the Island by back roads, to peaceful coves above, rooftops and through the rough seas of a storm.
Christopher Grimes works with Oil. Known for his subject of ‘Old Bermuda’, Christopher takes us back in time. From the wreck of the Sea Venture, to the building of Hamilton City, his art work leads through the passage of time. Some of the buildings are still standing, but more often than not, a quiet field has now been transformed into a major road way. Any Bermuda history buff will certainly be enthralled with his forgotten and beautiful scenes.
Chesley Trott works with Cedar. Chesley Trott is their senior resident artist and has been creating sculptures in cedar and bronze since our opening of the Arts Centre in 1984. The work found in the studio of resident artist Chesley Trott captures more than just the visual sense. It is hard to resist running a hand over the surface of one of his skillfully carved sculptures and one cannot miss the distinctive scent of Bermuda cedar released as he works with this aromatic, native wood.
Chesley’s sculptures are visual expressions of his hopes, dreams, experiences and interests. He tries to formulate out of wood, bronze and concrete his thoughts and ideas concerning plants, shapes, human bodies and animals that have made an impression on him. Often the essence of that though or idea is expressed in an abstract shape or form. After a career teaching art to children Chesley now devotes his time to creating his own artwork. But, his love of teaching means that he makes time to pass on his knowledge and skill through various classes held in his studio.
The opening is from 5.30pm until 7pm on Sunday, October 9th and the show runs until November 18th.
Admission is free. The Arts Centre is open daily from 10am to 5pm and is wheelchair accessible.

The Association of Canadians in Bermuda (ACIB) Board Members are hosting this year’s Canadian Thanksgiving Day Dinner at Victoria Grill on Monday, October 10th.
From 5.30pm, Happy Hour drink specials will be available in RumBar right below the restaurant. Reservations for a full turkey dinner, with all the usual Thanksgiving trimmings you love, will be available at Victoria Grill from 6.30pm.

Get your skates on for the Bermuda Roller Derby Recruitment Day on Sunday, October 16th.
From 2pm until 4pm at Pembroke Community Club (PCC) Rink, at the top of Admirality House, Bermuda Roller Derby invite you to try your hand at skating with them. They’ll tell you more about the sport, what’s involved in joining the league, and how derby has impacted all of their lives for the better.
This isn’t just a female sport though. They do indeed need some ladies of all shapes and sizes to join, but they also need males to step up as refs. The best part is, refs can skate on inline or quads so you have no excuses.

The soul of a wine-producing company is, naturally, its winemaker. Leonardo Bellaccini is the winemaker who nourishes the soul of San Felice Winery in Tuscany, Italy. Burrows Lightbourn invite you to join Leonardo for his first ever visit to Bermuda at a special Agricola San Felice Winemaker’s Dinner on Tuesday, October 18th.

The charming old town of St. George’s will be magical at the annual Bermuda National Trust Christmas Walkabout on Friday, December 2nd.
Running from 6pm until 9pm, the excitement and romantic yesteryear elegance that the Trust brings to St. George’s should not be missed.
There will be entertainment throughout the town and refreshments will be served at various locations marked on a map that will be distributed on the evening. Children can meet Santa and make Christmas crafts at the Edith Clair Spencer Hall.
The Trust’s Walkabout has become a popular community event with the generous support of volunteer musicians, dancers, singers and school groups marking the start of the Christmas season.
The public are invited to explore some of the oldest continually occupied buildings in the New World which will be decorated and candle lit for the event. Old favourites such as the Old Rectory, Samaritans’ Lodge, Buckingham, Tucker House and the Globe Hotel will also be open on the evening. King’s Square will have a host of dancers and musicians for your entertainment.

Enjoy nature’s laser light show in a fun and relaxing evening aboard the luxury sailing catamaran Ana Luna, as they invite you to join them for a Glow Worms Safari starting for the 2017 season on Friday and Saturday, May 12th and 13th, running twice a month until October.
This exotic evening on the seas will begin when the boat departs from the dock at Grotto Bay. The boat will depart at 7pm on May 12th and 13th, 7.30pm on June 11th and 12th, 7.30pm on July 11th and 12th, 7pm on August 9th and 10th, 6.30pm on September 8th and 9th, and 6pm on October 7th and 8th.
After enjoying the pinks and blues of the sunset, you can witness its aftermath in the form of the glow-in-the-dark mating ritual of these unusual creatures, performed 56 minutes after sunset, two and three days after the full moon during the warmer months. Following the biolumenecent worm display, you will enjoy moonrise with a complimentary champagne toast, courtesy of the captain, before returning to the dock.
