There are four new exhibits opening at the Bermuda Society of Arts (BSoA) in City Hall on Friday, May 6th.
Member artist are invited to showcase their recent works in the Members’ Spring Show in the Onions Gallery.
In Studio A, you’ll find Intricacies & Perspectives by Michelle and Lyndell. Lyndell and Michelle have teamed up to share their recent mosaic pieces and invite you to stop by and have a peek.
In Studio B, The Golden Triangle by Antoine Hunt will explore the circular function of the triangle in Bermudian architecture and landscape.
Finally, in the Edinburgh Gallery, you ‘ll find Ras Mykkal’s debut exhibition, Flying Flowers, with work for sale featured in his recently released book on local butterflies.
The grand opening of this show will be from 5pm until 7pm on Friday, May 6th.
Opening hours are from 10am until 4pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10am until 2pm on Saturdays. The exhibits will run until Tuesday, May 31st.
Admission is free, although donations are appreciated, and all are welcome.

Celebrate the music you thought you’d forgotten at the Bermuda Chamber Choir’s Make Time for Tea on Saturday and Sunday, May 7th and 8th.
Doors open at 2.30pm, with afternoon tea available, while the concert itself will start at 3pm.
The music is a collection of pieces that will evoke memories of childhood and yesteryear. It will include The Teddy Bear’s Picnic, Auld Lang Syne, Shenandoah, La Vie en Rose, and I Do Like to Be Beside the Seaside, amongst other pieces. Singing along is welcomed.
The Saturday event is at Christ Church Warwick, and the Sunday event is at the Cathedral Hall, Hamilton.

Promising an event like no other on the island, A Memorable Evening in Bermuda with Mark Twain will start on Monday, May 9th.
From 6.30pm at Fourways Inn, you can spend an evening in the company of one of Bermuda’s most famous residents. Following a three course candlelit dinner at one of the Island’s finest restaurants, you can enjoy a remarkable after-dinner performance by Gavin Wilson as Mark Twain, one of the world’s most celebrated writers and storytellers.

Presented by visiting scientist Dr. Jim Wetterer, Associate Professor at Florida Atlantic University, Them! World Domination by Ants will take place on Wednesday, May 10th.
Jim’s research interest is the biogeography, ecology, and environmental impact of ants. While in Bermuda, one question he hopes to answer is what ant species are associated with Bermuda’s mangroves. On previous visits to Bermuda he studied and documented the island’s ant species, and wrote about the vanished plague ants of 19th century Bermuda. His talk will be about his research with native and exotic ants around the world, and of the epic war between two dominant invasive ant species that have been battling each other for ecological supremacy in Bermuda for more than 60 years.

Under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency The Governor, and Mrs. Fergusson, the Bermuda School of Music promise an electrifying night at their 19th Annual Some Enchanted Evening Fundraising Concert on Saturday, May 14th.
Music and jazz lovers, swingers, Lindy hoppers and jitter buggers – your time has come. From 8pm at the Hamilton Princess, you can expect to have a musical experience that won’t be forgotten with an electrifying live sound that combines trumpets, saxophones and trombones with a rhythm section that will be here for your listening and dancing pleasure. The Bermuda School of Music’s Big Band Swing Night will feature international musicians Derrick Gardener, Albert Rivera and Joe Beaty, accompanied by your favourite local musicians to form a 16-piece ensemble.
All proceeds from this event go towards the school’s bursary program.

Designed to help support active lifestyles and raise awareness for heart disease and diabetes, the Family Fun 5K promises to be fun for the whole family on Sunday, May 15th.
Starting at 8am, participants will depart Barr’s Bay Park, head all the way down Front Street and turn left on King Street. They will then turn left on Church Street, up to Victoria Street via Parliament St, all the way past City Hall and left onto to Wesley Street back down on to Church Street. Then, they’ll turn right on Church Street and right again onto Richmond Road, all the way to Rosemont Avenue, which will take you onto Serpentine Road. You will then go left on Serpentine Road which will eventually take you to Pitts Bay Road. Finally, walkers will turn left on Pitt’s Bay Road and head back to Barr’s Bay Park. .
The route is approximately 5K and this event will not be chip-timed.
There will be healthy snacks at Barr’s Bay Park at the end of the walk.

Key concepts to be covered include: the key functions of the designated compliance person; the functions of the regulator/supervisor; the components and impacts of an AML regulatory framework; the expectations surrounding risk assessments; the unique organisational characteristics which inform compliance programmes; and how to make policies and procedures pragmatic and relevant.

Enjoy an afternoon of sailing and swimming as CastAway Bermuda: The Boatride will take place aboard the MV Elizabeth on Thursday, June 16th.
Boarding of the MV Elizabeth will begin promptly at 1pm at Albuoy’s Point for a 2pm departure, before returning to the Dock at 6pm.
