Hope you’re all enjoying the last few days of January!  Can’t wait for Summer?  Then, since time flies when you’re having fun, you’d best keep busy – here’s what is happening in Bermuda in February and March:

A great evening of food and drink is in store at Taste 141’s Wine Pairing Dinner on Wednesday, January 28th.

From 6.30pm until 9.30pm, you can enjoy a delicious five course dinner with a few touches of molecular gastronomy, beautifully paired with wines provided by Gosling’s

Beat the Winter Blues and participate in a Winter Reading Escape, a free programme from Adult Services at the Bermuda National Library (BNL) on Queen Street in Hamilton.

This Winter Reading Programme runs from Monday, January 26th until Saturday, March 13th. All Adult Services members can register from Saturday, January 24th and each person who registers will receive a log and a comment sheet. All material read, listened to or watched is recorded on each sheet and handed to the Circulation Desk staff once weekly. In exchange, the patron is entered in a draw for a weekly prize. If the log and comment sheets are completed in total at the end of 7 weeks, the patron is entered in a grand prize draw.

FCOG Angle Street and RHM School House are hosting SCARS Certification Training for youths aged 16 to 18 and their families, teachers and leaders on Friday, January 30th.

This will be from 5.45pm for a prompt 6pm start, running until 9pm in the St. John’s Ambulance Board Room on Point Finger Road. Spaces are limited and a light supper will be served. Please note that under 18s require a signed waiver and 16 year olds also require an adult in attendance.

The certification is free but registration is required.

The last Friday in January is just around the corner and the Mariners RFC invite you to fall off the wagon in style at their Unscrew the Resolution Wine Tasting at Gosling’s Wine Cellar on Friday, January 30th.

This event will run from 6pm until 8pm, with the 50/50 Draw at 7.45pm.

Mariners RFC is proud to have all funds raised going to The Dante Noel-Simmons Education Fund, Buccaneer’s Youth Rugby Las Vegas 7’s Tour and Mariners RFC Youth Rugby Program.

The Pop Up Playroom is now open two Saturday mornings a month, with the next being on Saturday, January 31st at National Sports Centre!

From 9.30am until 11.30am, there will be a range of soft play equipment providing clean and safe indoor fun for little ones under 5.

This will include a ball pit, dress ups, music, gross motor play area, ride ons and fun with people their own size, with coffee and tea available for purchase for the grown ups.

The cost is $15 for one adult and one child, and $5 for each additional walking child.

The Business and Professional Women’s Association of Bermuda (BPW Bermuda) will partner with Architect, Vanessa Daniels from Geoff Parker in their third company partnership series on Wednesday, February 4th.

The seminar will run from 5.30pm until 6.30pm at Ariel Re’s offices and the theme will be The Do’s and Don’ts of the Construction Industry.

Ms. Daniel’s career spans 15 years of experience in local architecture. She is particularly keen on equipping women with the tools to ask the right questions and look for in property related matters. The construction industry may be intimidating for women and through this seminar, BPW Bermuda hopes that educating women and giving them tips of the trade will help them build confidence in any construction project or negotiation.

Interested attendees should register early as space is limited to 25 people for this event. The deadline for registration is February 2nd and there is no cost to attend.

Join RHM School House for the screening of the award winning movie, The Pursuit of Happyness, in celebration of Black History Month on Friday, February 6th.

This movie is about the struggles and survival of a single black father and is age appropriate for P6 and up. It will screen at Liberty Theatre at 10am.

The cost is $12 per student, which includes drink and popcorn.

The monthly Ciné Club from L’Alliance Française des Bermudes will be showing Gabrielle at 8pm on Tuesday, February 10th.

Screening in the Tradewinds Auditorium at BUEI, this French language movie with English subtitles tells the story of Gabrielle, a young woman with Williams syndrome who has a contagious joie de vivre and an exceptional musical gift. Since she met her boyfriend Martin, at the recreation centre where they are choir members, they have been inseparable. However, because they are “different,” their loved ones are fearful of their relationship. As the choir prepares for an important music festival, Gabrielle does everything she can to gain her independence. As determined as she is, Gabrielle must still confront other people’s prejudices as well as her own limitations in the hope of experiencing a love far from the “ordinary”…

If so, you may be interested in Parents’ Night Out for Valentine’s Day child care on Saturday, February 14th.

The 20th Annual Shiai Invitational Karate Tournament, promoted by Gladwin “Roots” Phillips, will take place from 1pm at Pembroke Sunday School on Sunday, February 15th.

This martial arts tournament is open to all ages, levels and disciplines. Entry forms are available either directly from Sensei Roots or from Bermuda Karate Institute.

Spectator tickets are $10 for adults or $5 for under-12s, and available from Sensei Roots or Bermuda Karate Institute.

MAMA (Meet-a-Mum-Association) will be hosting the wine-tasting fundraiser, Wine Love Food, on Friday, February 20th to support two wonderful, local non-profits.

This event will start at 7.30pm at Discovery Wines on Bakery Lane, where you will taste 6 wines with paired appetizers.

Tickets are $65 and include the wine and appetizers. All net proceeds from ticket sales and the silent auction will go to The Reading Clinic and The Coalition for the Protection of Children.

Enjoy a night of music, courtesy of the Warwick Academy Jazz Band along with special returning guest jazz trumpeter, Derrick Gardner, and Albert Rivera, saxophonist and Vandoren recording artist, at the Warwick Academy Jazz Gala Evening on Saturday, February 21st.

The evening will begin with cocktails from 6.30pm, followed by dinner at 7pm. Dancing with the Warwick Academy Jazz Band will be from 8pm until 9pm, followed by Derrick Gardner and Albert Rivera performing live from 9.30pm until 10pm.

How important is Arts Education to our community? Artist Dany Pen invites you to join her in a Public Art Intervention piece during the St.George’s Art Walk: Carnival of Lights on Friday, February 27th.

As an Artist and Art Educator, Dany knows and understand the essential value that Art Education holds for learners but questions whether others, such as your school leaders, parents, elected representatives, School Board Members and local media do? Come on out and join her in marching and advocating for Arts Education, where your support is highly valued and your concerns will be heard.

There are several ways to participate, free of charge. First of all, from 6pm until 7pm, there will be a signing of t-shirts in King’s Square. You can bring a blank T-shirt which she will paint stamp “Advocate For Arts Education”, signed by Dany Pen. There will also be free Art Advocacy T-shirts for children, first come, first served.

From 7pm, a March for Arts Education will commence in King’s Square, heading down Water Street.

If you crave rare birth wisdom not taught anywhere else, then find out how you can have a huge impact on Bermuda’s future in just one weekend training. The Dancing For Birth training is coming to Bermuda at Lotus Mind Body Spirit Wellness and Birth Centre on Saturday, February 28th and Sunday, March 1st.

The workshop will run from 9.30am until 5.30pm each day. Saturday’s session will be Level 1: Advanced Techniques for Birth Pros while Sunday’s will be Level 2: Instructor Training. Level 1 is a pre-requisite for Level 2.

The cost is $470 for the full two day workshop or $299 for Level 1 only.

It’s time to lace up and enjoy yourselves for the 2015 KPMG Round the Grounds Junior Running Race on Sunday, March 15th.

Held at the Botanical Gardens in Paget, this special event is just for younger runners, aged 4 to 18 years old. The first race starts at 1pm with the 4 year olds.  Parking will be at the Tucker property opposite the South Shore entrance to Botanical Gardens. Children’s activities will be provided by Masterworks and refreshments are available.

The entry fee is $10 and this race is sanctioned by the Bermuda National Athletics Association (BNAA) in association with Mid-Atlantic Athletics Club.  Number pick-up, including late entries, is on Saturday, March 14th between noon and 2pm at Masterworks. No late entries will be accepted on the day.
