Easter is one of my favorite holidays and I have such fond memories of decorating eggs with my mom and then enjoying the huge Easter egg hunts at Granny’s house with all of my many cousins. This year I wanted to find some more creative Easter egg decorating ideas, although I am sure we will dye eggs as well, the kids will demand it! Some of you may know that I have fallen in love with an artful doodling form called Zentangle over the last couple of years, in fact you could say I have become obsessed and can be found doodling on anything that sits still long enough. Tangling, as it is called by Zentangle fans and teachers, is relaxing and being creative keeps me sane when life seems overwhelming. Here’s a pinwheel I did last year.
I was not surprised when I found some beautiful examples of doodling on Easter eggs on Pinterest, plus Liz posted a great example from Sharpie on my Facebook page. So next time I was at Hobby Lobby, I searched for the right egg to tangle. One of the samples I saw was from one of new favorite bloggers Alisa Burke, she has gorgeous ideas on her blog, including painting eggs with watercolors.
Here’s a beautiful photo from the official Sharpie blog of doodling on Easter eggs with Sharpie paint markers, more complicated than what I did but what amazing results. Click on the image for the how-to. These are foam eggs that are painted and then doodled on. Might have to try this next!
This pretty pink gauze bag full of plastic, pastel colored Easter eggs quickly caught my eye and at 40% off, who could resist.
I did find that my Sharpie pen worked better than my Micron pens that I used for Zentangle, they smeared. I tried doodling on real eggs too but found the egg needs to be very dry. Again, the Sharpie permanent markers worked best.

Sharpie Markers – I just used black but you could use any variety of colors
Eggs (either real eggs that have been hollowed out and dried completely or plastic eggs of any variety)
