A self-proclaimed “avid selfie fan,” Lauren Price launched Fashionably Lo to provide a unique perspective on fashion that won’t empty our wallets. Price began making OOTD posts on Instagram, which then sparked an idea to blog about her budget-friendly fashion. The blog is a creative outlet where her experience in PR and love of fashion could intersect. We had the chance to chat with this budget-savvy fashionista about her blog and personal style:

How has your position in PR influenced the way you approach fashion and blogging?

One of the things I have learned in PR is engage, engage, engage. Whether it’s with your audience, fellow bloggers or even publications and brands/designers, it is beyond important to interact with the industry and get your blog and your niche out there. Utilizing a range of social media platforms and fashion communities paired with tons of emails, shout outs and comments, I have been able to build a growing network and draw some pretty great inspiration.

What tips do you have for mixing pieces to maximize style on a budget?

I like to keep key staple items in my closet such as a classic cropped pant, denim jacket or neutral shift dress. When you have pieces that can either serve as a blank canvas or go with literally any and everything, it’s much easier to create numerous looks from one item. This also allows you to save a little money. By purchasing the basics, you can even remix a piece 5 different ways for a weeks’ worth of looks!

With the print mixing trend making such a splash this season, it’s never been easier to throw together fun and polished looks with pretty much anything you own. My favorite go-to is to mix a pair of floral skinnies with a striped top or color block heel. At the start of summer, I bought a handful of printed pants and skirts along with a few “extra loud” tops and have been able to create so many cool and unique looks.

Living in the DC/Northern Virginia area, what street styles have inspired you this season?

As a PR professional in DC, I see tons of uber feminine and classic looks, which, lucky for me pretty much sums up my style. Anything from a polka dot shift dress to that red hot power suit, and everything in between, I have tried to incorporate some of the styles and renditions of the summer’s hottest trends in my daily wear. And let’s be honest, it is impossible to ignore the fabulous DC humidity which pretty much calls for anything lightweight and happy-hour friendly.

What is your process like in determining an outfit for the day?

This is by far the most stressful part of my day! Well, usually. I may have a minor major shopping habit and a big fear of getting rid of anything in my wardrobe. However, to help keep myself organized and on track, I try to start with one focus piece and build the outfit from there. Whether it’s a pair of fun printed pants, a fantastic white hot heel or even a simple gray tee, once I can narrow down the “main attraction” it’s so much easier to pull various items and accessories to create the final look. I have to admit that I usually go through 2-3 versions of the same outfit before I can walk out the door.

Name one embarrassing item in your closet.

I haven’t worn it in years, but I still have this horrendous bedazzled denim mini skirt from middle school. I’m not looking forward to it, but I think the denim mini is trying to make a comeback. Maybe I could bring it out for one last spin!

Style on,
