News from Boston Public Library regarding the temporary closing of the West End Branch Library on Cambridge Street from August 10-29, 2012 to replace the roof. The North End Branch at 25 Parmenter Street is the nearest alternative branch. The press release is shown below.
The West End Branch of the Boston Public Library, which is located at 151 Cambridge Street, will undergo building improvements in August. The branch will receive a new roof, a process that necessitates the temporary closure of the branch. The temporary closure period will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, August 10. Roof work will begin on Monday, August 13, and is expected to be completed in just under three weeks.
The West End Branch will reopen on Wednesday, August 29, at 10 a.m.
In addition to a new roof, the West End Branch will have a new boiler installed, have some exterior paint work completed, and will be connected to the Boston Public Library’s networked energy management system, which will allow for temperature control to be handled via the BPL’s headquarters in Copley Square rather than having to dispatch a technician for changes.
During the temporary closure period, West End Branch users are encouraged to use the nearby North End Branch, located at 25 Parmenter Street, and the Central Library in Copley Square, located at 700 Boylston Street, as well as any of the Boston Public Library’s other locations throughout the city.
