An inside look into the life of a touring cabaret artist
Toronto, Canada – July 22, 2016 – Touring artist and cabaret performer, Sharron Matthews, seeks crowdfunding support for her documentary project. It will be a five part Behind The Scenes series filmed at a live Sharron Matthews Cabaret performance that also included exclusive interviews. A campaign was launched to raise $12,000 CAD. Funds received will used to pay for venue costs, visual and audio equipment, staffing, and labour costs for editing.
What is “cabaret?” Not many fully understand the idea or the artistry of this stage performance. Cabaret is the art of storytelling through songs. It’s musical theatre, a concert, and/or a comedic act. An interactive practice that encourages the audience to experience their own emotional moments and connections articulated through music. A performance that’s ever changing depending on the venue and participants.
The goal of this documentary is to produce a snapshot of Sharron’s version of her cabaret. This will enable her to sell shows to theatres and booking agents around the world. A live show will be staged in Toronto this summer, where director and producer, Mike Bickerton, a winner of four Canadian Screen Award, will capture performances and interviews that provide a behind-the-scene look into the Sharron Matthews cabaret. Bickerton is well known for producing shows that brake ratings records in Canadian television. His filmography includes: The Amazing Race Canada, So You Think You Can Dance Canada, Canadian Idol, The Real Housewives of Vancouver, and The Real Housewives of Toronto to just name a few.
Every dollar raised will go right back into the business of cabaret touring such as administration and promotion for new arrangements, buying new costumes, development of new websites, hiring production assistants to help with the many aspects of self-production.
