We are heavily vested in the communities in which we work and share in the excitement and pride in completing this phase of the Northern Oaks Campus.

Houston / San Antonio, TX –  Linbeck Group, a Texas-based, technology-driven building construction firm, has announced the completion of Phase I of an innovative new K-12 campus for Great Hearts Academies in San Antonio.  The Great Hearts Northern Oaks Campus, located at 17223 Jones Maltsberger Road, began as a raw, undeveloped 16-acre site. Once the land was prepped, the building was constructed in less than eight months.

The two-phase project required extensive preliminary site preparation and construction site work, including build-to-suit construction of a two-story 41,318 square foot primary school, complete with administration offices, 10 classrooms, a library and a cafeteria/multi-use room on the first floor, and 22 classrooms on the second floor.

Upon completion of this project, Linbeck Group has built more than two million square feet of charter school space as part of more than 100 unique projects for 40 campuses.

Great Hearts Academies are public, tuition-free, K-12 charter schools, and one of the top charter school operators in the country. Great Hearts currently operates four K-12 academies in Texas, serving roughly 1,600 students, and 11 K-12 academies across the metropolitan Phoenix area, serving more than 11,000 students, and. Demand for the Great Hearts educational model has driven steady growth since the organization’s inception in 2004. Linbeck anticipates starting Phase II of the Northern Oaks campus project in Spring 2017 for fall 2018 occupancy.

“We’re thrilled with the way Linbeck Group has embraced our vision for our Northern Oaks campus and driven this project forward,” said Dan Scoggin, President of Great Hearts Texas. “Linbeck has provided a wonderful environment for us to serve Texas students, and we are fully confident that this new campus will help us further our mission to provide a Great Hearts education to more Texas students.”

“We are heavily vested in the communities in which we work and share in the excitement and pride in completing this phase of the Northern Oaks Campus,” said Chuck Greco, Chairman, Linbeck Group. “We expect this Campus will help in the successful growth of Great Hearts’ high-performing liberal arts model in San Antonio.”

When questioned about the project, developer Michael Westheimer, CEO of Coldwater Ventures, LLC, said, “We are proud to have participated in the construction of Great Hearts Northern Oaks Academy. This fine public charter school will add immeasurably to the academic offerings available to the San Antonio community. The Linbeck team was absolutely the right choice for this project. Linbeck’s tremendous experience in the Charter School sector combined with the unmatched character and talent of the Linbeck personnel delivered a beautiful finished product on time!”

In receiving its Temporary Certificate of Occupancy from the City of San Antonio, Great Hearts Northern Oaks will open in time to allow faculty and students to start school on schedule in the fall.

About Great Hearts Texas

Great Hearts Texas is a non-profit network of tuition-free, classical, liberal arts public charter schools.  Founded in Arizona, Great Hearts’ network of public charter schools serves over 11,000 students in Phoenix and 2,000 in Texas, with two campuses in San Antonio and one in Irving.  With over 4,500 students on the waitlist for Great Hearts Texas, more campuses are planned for San Antonio and North Texas.

A Great Hearts classical education transforms students into leaders who are prepared for the 21st century. We do this by teaching the skills necessary for success: the ability to innovate through creativity, the ability to communicate clearly, the ability to apply critical thought through analysis and questioning the world around us, and through building virtue and character in order to demonstrate ethical judgment and integrity.

More than 95% of Great Hearts graduates immediately attend four-year colleges and universities and 55% of graduates choose a STEM major in college.  With an average SAT score of 1832, our students score 300 points above the national average.
