With such great crossover models like the Nissan Juke to the 2012 Murano, Nissan has mastered the essence of a stylish performance utility vehicle. So you might be thinking, how could they possibly improve on that even more?
Well, recently Nissan released the Hi-Cross Concept at the Geneva Auto Show. It's a new crossover that reveals the future of Nissan styling and efficiency. Speaking on the company's decision to add yet another crossover to their lineup, Andy Palmer, Executive VP, Nissan, says "[The] Hi-Cross Concept shows we are not sitting still, resting on our laurels, but exploring ways of cementing our crossover leadership by exploring new ideas."1
In addition to the new styling and performance, it's going to feature groundbreaking hybrid technology, mated to a next-generation Continuously Variable Transmission, with a roomy and elegant interior to match.
More specifically, the hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter direct-injection engine, electric motor, and lithium-ion battery. Nissan's 'one-motor, two clutch' technology, mated to their XTRONIC CVT is already ten percent more efficient than most CVTs. Of course, the battery in the Hi-Cross is the very same technology used in the all-electric LEAF, providing acceleration assistance among other things, for the most efficient driving experience possible. All told, the power plant boasts the same specs as a regular 2.5-liter engine, except it does so with class-leading fuel-efficiency and super low emissions.
But what's truly impressive about the Hi-Cross is its compact platform. It's smaller than the Murano, a tad bigger than the Juke, but with an extremely spacious interior. There's enough room for seven passengers!
It's still only a concept, but the buzz on the floor at the Geneva Motor Show has led us to believe that we can expect a production version of this vehicle in the near future.
