This is a question I get asked A LOT. “What are your favorite concealers?”. Here is the skinny, I have favorites but when someone asks for my opinion, my answer will depend according to the context and need. Concealer and correcting are makeup tricks that largely vary on need and skin type/ tone. Some of us like heavy concealing because of darkness, some prefer brightening and don’t need a ton of concealing or color correcting (by color correcting I am addressing dark circles, some are brown, purple, blue or even red). In this post, I am sharing my most favorite concealers, in general and based on constant professional (and my personal) use. Please note, I’ve swatched concealers good for medium to medium light skin undertones (like mine). It is important to match the concealer to your natural foundation tone, and not use a lighter color! Using a lighter concealer under the eyes looks very dated and shows up awful on camera. Say no to raccoon eyes! One more thing, in my swatches you see a range of colors varying from yellowish to lighter medium. For myself, I always mix my concealer with the foundation I am using. I feel this looks more natural in different light settings and in person. For darker skinned ladies, I also mix foundation with OCC Skin Conceal and to match exactly, I add Face Atelier Zero Plus or Heat, both fabulous products I carry with me at all times.

OCC Skin Conceal – Since its launch a couple years ago, this became one of my favorite concealers. What I like about OCC Skin Conceal is the range of color and flexibility of use, you can thin it out with moisturizer, primer or mix your foundation to achieve a creamy finish. A vegan, cruelty-free product, free of parabens, silicone, petroleum, and fragrance. Retails $14

NYX Concealer In a Jar – Don’t be fooled by the drugstore label, NYX’s Concealer In a Jar is the real deal when it comes to coverage and color correcting (redness and darkness). What I like is that it comes in several shades, covers amazingly and won’t break your bank. For personal use, this is a favorite, it is medium to full coverage. NYX is a cruelty-free brand. Retails for $5

LA Girl Pro Conceal – I blogged about this amazing bargain concealer a few months ago, and the love is still huge. LA Girl Pro Conceal offers a lovely creamy more liquid-y option for those who need more hydrating qualities in their concealing. It also comes in a great range of colors, for light and darker skin tones and can be built to achieve a lighter or heavier application. LA Girl is also a cruelty free brand. Retails for $5

Makeup Forever Camouflage Palette – This is a professional grade concealer I’ve been using for years. Makeup Forever Camouflage comes in a palette with five colors and in different skin tones and correcting shades. For those interested in personal use, the MUFE Camouflage can be purchased in a jar for $20. I feel that Makeup Forever concealer is an excellent choice for those looking for good coverage and want dark circles gone in a couple of strokes. Also, I like the fact that this mixes well with foundation, should you want to do that to get more coverage in certain areas and body parts. Makeup Forever Camouflage Palette retails for $38

YSL Touche Eclait – Note that YSL Touch Eclait is sold as a highlighter but here is a PRO secret, blended with foundation, color correcting cream, BB cream or tinted moisturizer, it will work as a concealer too. What’s important to understand before buying YSL Touch Eclait is that this has a brightening effect so the skin appears more luminous. If you need heavier concealing or color correcting, YSL Touch Eclait may not be right for you. That being said, I love that this is an option for those looking for a more subtle finish that is creamy in consistency plus the range of color is pretty good. YSL Touche Eclait retails for $41

Any questions feel free to drop me a comment. I tried to round up a good balance between drugstore, professional and beauty counter, based on my own experience as a consumer and working with some of these products in my own makeup artist work. Also, I know vegan and cruelty-free is an important label so I also wanted to have that as an option for my readers.

**All these items were purchased by me with my professional discount and some for personal use with my own funds. Opinions are all my own.
