Similar to the other major foreign countries that have businesses located in Louisiana, there are several French companies operating in Louisiana’s Oil and Gas sector (Total – the fifth largest publicly-traded international oil and gas company to name just one). However, France direct investment in Louisiana is unique in terms of its positioning in New Orleans’s economy. According to available business reports and companies websites, it appears that France is the foreign country that has the most companies present in the 5 priority industry clusters identified by the New Orleans Business Alliance as strategic to further growth in New Orleans.
There are two major french companies in the Transportation Trade and Logistics cluster: CMA-CGM -the third largest container shipping company in the world- operates since 2011 a trade route between the Port of New Orleans and others ports in the Caribbean. Transdev (formerly known as Veolia Transportation) manages since 2009 the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority public transportation system including the oldest continuously operated streetcar line in the United States, the St. Charles Streetcar Line. In the Creative Digital Media cluster, Gameloft -a leading global publisher in digital and social games- has set up an office in New Orleans in 2011 consolidating its presence in the United States after having opened offices in New York and San Francisco. In the BioInnovation and Health Services cluster, Eurofins – a biotechnology company specialized in food safety testing- has two laboratories located at the University of New Orleans’s Research and Technology Center. There are in 2014 currently no french companies in the other two priority industry clusters: Advanced Manufacturing and Sustainable Industries.

La Présence Stratégique des Entreprises Françaises à La Nouvelle-Orléans
Comme tous les principaux autres pays ayant des entreprises implantées en Louisiane, il existe plusieurs entreprises françaises opérant dans le secteur pétrolier (Total – la cinquième compagnie pétroliere mondiale pour n’en citer qu’une). En revanche, l’investissement direct français en Louisiane se distingue par son positionnement dans la structure économique de La Nouvelle-Orléans. Selon les publications disponibles sur l’investissement étranger en Louisiane et après consultation des sites internets des compagnies étrangères en Louisiana, il semble que la France est le pays étranger ayant le plus d’entreprises présente dans les cinq pôles prioritaires selon la New Orleans Business Alliance pour promouvoir la croissance économique.
Il existe ainsi deux entreprises majeures dans le pôle du Transport Commercial et de la Logistique (Transportation Trade and Logistics): CMA-CGM, le troisième armateur mondial dans le transport de conteneurs opère une ligne commerciale entre le Port de La Nouvelle-Orléans et divers ports dans le Golfe du Mexique. L’entreprise Transdev (connue auparavant sous le nom de Veolia Transportation) gère depuis 2009 le système de transportation publique de la ville de La Nouvelle-Orléans, dont la fameuse ligne de streetcar de l’avenue St. Charles. Dans le pôle de l’Economie Digitale (Creative Digital Media), Gameloft, -un leader mondial dans l’édition et la création de jeux numériques et sociaux- s’est installé à La Nouvelle-Orleans en 2011, consolidant ainsi sa présence aux Etats-Unis après avoir ouvert des bureaux à New York et à San Francisco. Dans le pôle de la Biotechnologie et de la Santé (BioInnovation and Health Services), Eurofins –un des premiers prestataires mondiaux sur le marché de la bioanalyse – a deux laboratoires dans le centre de recherche et de technologie de l’University of New Orleans. Il n’y a pas en 2014 d’entreprises francaises dans les deux autres pôles prioritaires, celui des Industries Manufacturières et de Fabrication de Pointe (Advanced Manufacturing) et du Développement Durable (Sustainable Industries).
