Following the change of name of Microsoft’s cloud storage service from SkyDrive to OneDrive, the software company had also upgraded SkyDrive Pro, its enterprise version, to OneDrive for Business. Through the updated app, Microsoft promises a better and easier-to-use online storage service for those who are working in the corporate world. Announced earlier this week at the SharePoint Conference 2014 in Las Vegas, OneDrive for Business functions almost the same as SkyDrive Pro: employees can store, sync, and share files in different devices easier and more secure. It allows editing of documents at exactly the moment you need to using Office Online. You can also access your files whether you are using a smartphone, tablet, laptop, or PC with native OneDrive for Business and Office Mobile apps (which is now available in WP8).
Aside from the change of name, OneDrive for Business will also have the following upgrades, some currently available, while others are coming soon:
- OneDrive for Business will be available for purchase as a standalone service. It’s also still available as part of many Office 365 for business plans, but the new standalone plan makes it easy to get started using cloud storage and sharing.
- It’s now easier to access, find, and manage your work files because of new user experience enhancements to OneDrive for Business.
- On-premises SharePoint customers can now configure OneDrive for Business more easily—with just a few clicks—with Service Pack 1 on-premises SharePoint customers to configure OneDrive for Business with just a few clicks with Service Pack 1.
