With the Amber update to roll out in a few weeks to all WP8 Lumia smartphones, Nokia has decided to create something that will put Bluetooth 4.0 (upgrade of BT 3.0, included in the update) into good use: by creating Bluetooth Treasure Tags!

Set to be launch in sync with the Amber Update release, Bluetooth Treasure Tags are accessories that, when attached to important belongings, can be traced using your Lumia handsets via a Treasure Tag app. This wonderful capability uses both BT 4.0 and NFC standards for easy tracking purposes. With the innovation brought about by Bluetooth Low Energy, it is said that the device will be last long in “on” mode, until the battery is drained, which will take about 6 months to a year.

What differentiates these Tags from other tracking device is that it can be used backwards; when the phone is nowhere to be found, a button in the Tag can make the handset produce a sound. However, the said feat is only possible when both devices are within range of each other. Just a minor drawback right?

The Bluetooth Treasure Tags is another new way of making our lives better, thanks to Nokia’s tireless efforts. We are really excited for this new product to hit the stores!
