On Wednesday, July 13th, Microsoft published another blog post at their Windows blog related to their new browser. With Windows 10 Microsoft was finally moving away from Internet Explorer and introduced Microsoft Edge, the next generation browser. However, there the browser isn’t that popular, most people are still using Goolges Chrome browser although Edge is a pretty good one.
Well, if you are a consumer and you are using the regular version of Microsoft Edge you won’t be satisfied by it yet. However, with the Anniversary Update which set to be launched on August 2nd, the browser gets a lot of new features an d a whole lot more snappier and stable. While the company published an article about battery consumption already, showing Edge as the winner, there is a new one now. This time the company is looking for the best streaming quality you can get with a browser, exemplary shown with Netflix.
The article about the best energy-saving browser brought some controversy since other companies and news organizations achieved results differentiating from the ones Microsoft got. Now the questions is, are these tests are even usable or can they be safely ignored simply because Microsoft is not objective enough. Well, no actually the results are pretty good and that’s also shown with the confirmation of PCWorld which achieved the same results as Microsoft in the video stream test.
While it almost goes without saying to stream 1080p videos on YouTube or any other video platform, this is a different thing on netflix. Therefor Microsoft made this test which brings up Microsoft Edge as the only browser which can stream FullHD (1080p) videos on Netflix paired with the highest Bitrate, all other browser which have been tested, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Google Chrome, are falling behind in this test.

As PCWorld is pointing out, it is pretty easy to verify this test. All you need in order to do this test by yourself is a variety of browsers installed on your PC and a valid Netflix Premium account. Once you start streaming you can press Ctrl+Alt+Shift+D get a hidden menu in Netflix. This shows you streaming quality and bit rate of the stream you are currently watching.
If this can convince people to use Microsoft Edge, maybe. Probably mor important is stability, safety and features. With the Anniversary Update in August Microsoft will finally bring extensions for consumers along with a lot of other improvements and features which is a very important step for the browser.
