Lady Gaga’s career has come full circle after she performed a show at the New York bar where she first sang as a teen.
Lady Gaga, a Big Apple native, staged the second gig of her mini Dive Bar Tour at The Bitter End in Manhattan’s West Village on Thursday night to promote her new album, Joanne, which is named after her late aunt.
Fans crowded the area trying to get in for the intimate concert, but those who couldn’t gain access were not left out – after completing her show indoors, Gaga decided to head to the venue’s rooftop to perform an acoustic set for everyone waiting on the streets.
The singer, who was joined by superproducer Mark Ronson onstage, has since revealed the event was extra special for her, as it brought back memories of her early days as an aspiring entertainer.
“The Bitter End in New York City… was actually the first place I ever performed at in New York, when I was 15 years old,” she explained on U.S. breakfast show Good Morning America on Friday (21Oct16). “So to be there last night was so amazing and such a throwback experience, and yet, I didn’t realise until the show was over because I was just so focused on doing a great show for the fans.”
In addition to promoting her new project, Gaga is busy preparing for her headlining slot at the Super Bowl Halftime Show on 5 February (17), when she will take the stage at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas during the National Football League (NFL) championship game.
“I am absolutely elated beyond and honoured to be doing the halftime show,” she gushed. “We’ve been already planning it and thinking (of) all the different ways we can make this a special experience for the football fans.”
The pop superstar is planning to incorporate tracks from Joanne into her set, which she hopes will make her family really proud.
She continued, “I was thinking yesterday how wonderful it’s going to be to also play maybe a few new songs from the new record at the Super Bowl with grandmother, who was Joanne’s mother. She’s blind but she’ll be able to hear, I think, from the stands and I think it will be a proud moment for our family and that means more to me than anything.”
