Empowering Communities Through Leadership
Moderated by Briggs, whose powerful voice galvanises communities on and off stage, this panel explores how to Make It and how to maintain it – how to sustain a career as a musician and how to facilitate that sustainability by empowering your community.
The Idiosyncrasies of Artist Management (presented with Association of Artist Managers)
From running the merch booth to jet setting around the world cutting record deals, artist managers come in all shapes and sizes. On this highly unique panel, we present three of Australia’s most celebrated contemporary artists Tkay Maidza, Japanese Wallpaper and Elizabeth Mitchell (Totally Mild) sitting beside their managers as we put their relationships under the microscope.
Songwriters Live in the Round (presented with APRA AMCOS)
Three of Australia’s most beloved songwriters – Alex Lahey, Ainslie Wills, and Hiatus Kaiyote’s Nai Palm – speak to The Age’s Chris Johnston about their creative influences, musical and lyrical inspirations, favourite songs, revered idols, and individual approaches to the craft of songwriting.
Environmental Consciousness in Music (presented with RMIT)
It takes more than a protest song to make a difference. We all bear a responsibility to save the environment. Face The Music assembles a collection of Australia’s most forward-thinking minds at the intersection of music and environmental science to discuss reusables and recyclables, solar power and sustainability, with pointers on how we can reduce or offset the environmental footprint of the industry we love.
Music on the Mind (supported by The University of Melbourne)
Does listening to Mozart make you smarter? Doctors Sarah Wilson, Katrina McFerran, and Margaret Osborne and the University of Melbourne’s Solange Glasser offer critical insights into the impact of music on the mind.
Peking Duk: ‘Australiana’ – A Tour Goes Under the Microscope
Featuring members of Peking Duk and their support team, including managers, their agent, sound director, and visual director, this panel moderated by the Live Music Office’s Damian Cunningham will examine Peking Duk’s national tour from every angle.
Women In Electronic Music (presented with MusicNSW)
The latest in Face the Music’s proud lineage of panels on gender equality in music, in 2016 we take it a step further and focus on one of the most male-dominated genres of all – electronic music. A continuation of MusicNSW’s Women in Electronic Music Program, we look at some of the initiatives under way and practical steps we can all take to help create a diverse and inclusive music industry.
