Pharrell Williams is at the top of the ARIA Singles chart for a fifth consecutive week with his now 3x▲Platinum selling single “Happy”.

Channel Sevens’ use of the song “Say Something” in the TV promos for the returning thriller ‘Revenge’ help the track by A Great Big World and Christina Aguilera to blast up to a new peak No.2 this week, pushing last weeks contender “Swing” by Joel Fletcher and Savage down a spot to No.3, whilst recent tourists here London Grammar also gained TV promo sales, as their track “Strong” was used in the comeback season of ‘Home & Away’ for the past couple of weeks, this week it’s up to a new peak of No.4. plus the track also scored the No.10 placing in the Triple J Hottest 100 for 2014.

Rudimental and Emeli Sande with Nas stay put at their No.5 peak for a third non-consecutive week, whilst blasting back into the Top 10 and landing a new peak in the process is “Riptide” by Vance Joy, which not only went Top 10 in the UK this past week, but also landed the Triple J Hottest 100 No.1 placing for 2013, the song originally peaking at No.7 in August 2013. The No.2 placed song for the JJJ100 was “Royals” by Lorde, which also picked up a couple of Grammys wins this past week, which helps propel the song and “The Love Club” EP back into the Top 10 at No.10, it’s eleventh accumulated week within the Top 10. John Legend performed his recent No.1 single “All of Me” at the Grammys last weekend, and the track is down a place to No.7, whilst falling five places each are “Trumpets” by Jason DeRulo to No.8 and “Rude” by Magic to No.9, the “Rude” achieving 3x▲Platinum in sales this week.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: With Avicii in the country this past week, his album claims the top spot this week, whilst his latest single “Addicted to You” is up a couple of places to a new peak of No.11, whilst moving back up to No.13 is “God Only Knows” by MKTO, which this week is certified ▲ Platinum in sales. “The Man” for Aloe Blacc is up seven places to No.16, and another J100 track leaps up to a new peak, “Drop the Game” for Flume and Chet Faker is up thirteen places to No.18, its first week within the Top 20. JJJ100 placed No.7 was “Young & Beautiful” by Lana Del Rey, which rebounds eleven places to No.23 this week, whilst another Lorde track in “Team” (J100 #15) is back up eighteen spots to No.30 this week. Daft Punk won four major Grammys last weekend, and their track “Get Lucky” leaps back up thirty-five places to No.33, and it also placed at No.3 on the J100 2013 listings. A couple of last weeks new entries score a Top 40 placing this week, with “Take Me Home” by Cash Cash featuring BeBe Rexha up eighteen places to No.34 and American Authors with “Best Day of My Life” leaps nineteen to No.37. “Goodness Gracious” by Ellie Goulding is up a couple of places to a new peak of No.42, whilst Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull blast up forty-two positions to land at No.45 with “I’m a Freak”. Katy Perry is back into the Top 50 with “Unconditionally” (now ▲ Platinum) at No.49, whilst further J100 place getters return to the Top 50 and score new peaks in the process, with “Is This How You Feel?” EP by The Preatures up forty-four spots to No.46 (J100 #9). “Eat Sleep Rave Repeat” for Fatboy Slim returns to the Top 100 at No.47 (J100 #51), and The Arctic Monkeys are back up forty-nine places from last week with “Do I Wanna Know?”, which landed at No.4 on the J100 for 2013. DOWN DOWN: After a single week within the Top 10 at No.8, “Red Lights” by Tiesto falls back four places to No.12, but the song picks up a Gold (●) in sales, with the other Top 10 dropout being “Timber” (HP-4×3) by Pitbull and Ke$ha, which leaves the Top 10 for the first time and is down four to No.14 after fifteen weeks within the ten. “I See Fire” by Ed Sheeran falls five to No.17 and “Like a Drum” for Guy Sebastian is down six to No.22. Katy Perry and “Roar” fall seven to No.24, whilst also picking up a ninth ▲ Platinum certification. After peaking at No.19 last week, Idina Menzel’s version of “Let it Go” falls down to No.26 this week, the Selena Gomez version is down six to No.35 too. Imagine Dragons drop back six to No.28 with “Demons” which is now 2x▲Platinum in sales, whilst The Vamps pick up a ▲ Platinum sales record for “Can We Dance”, which drops back eight to No.32 this week. Shakira and Rihanna’s “Can’t Remember to Forget You” falls back nine to No.36, but with the racy video out this week, it could boost it back up next week. “Warrior” for Havana Brown falls ten places to No.43, as too do Bastille with “Of the Night”, down to No.50, but the big drops from last weeks Top 50 include “Impossible” for 360 and Daniel Johns (25 to 66) and “Soldier” for Samantha Jade (39 to 78).

The latest single for Rihanna entitled “Jump” is the highest new entry of the week at No.21, and is the seventh single from her ‘Unapologetic’ album to chart here, and the new single features lyric interpolations of the Ginuwine single “Pony” (HP-3, peaked March 1997). This becomes her 45th Top 100 charting single in Australia, and Rihanna is also currently charting alongside Eminem with “The Monster” (TW-15) and Shakira on “Can’t Remember to Forget You” (TW-36).

The opening performance of the Grammys last weekend was by Beyonce and Jay-Z with “Drunk in Love”, which this week debuts at No.41 and becomes the second single from her current self-titled album (TW-7) to chart, as “XO” is currently sitting at No.25 after having so far peaked at No.16. This new entry becomes the 28th Top 100 solo single for Beyonce in Australia.

Lower 50: The lower half of the Top 100 this week is made up of re-entries from Triple J Hottest 100 placed tracks and Grammy performers, with a few 1983 No.1 singles thrown in too. “Australiana” by Austen Tayshus re-enters at No.55 as the track was released digitally for the first time just before Australian Day. To mark the thirtieth anniversary and first time on CD in 2003, the song returned and peaked at No.63, with it originally having spent eight broken weeks at No.1 from August to late October in 1983.

“Tennis Court” (J100 #12) by Lorde is back up forty-three places to No.57 and Matt Corby returns at No.64 with “Resolution” (J100 #8), with HAIM back in one place lower at No.65 with “The Wire” (J100 #11). The debut self-titled album for MKTO came out on Friday, and their second single “Classic” jumps back up sixteen places this week to No.67, whilst their first “Thank You” is back in at No.81. Re-entering at No.70 are The Arctic Monkeys with “Why’d you Only Call Me When You’re High?” (J100 #6), and back in at No.71 is “Reckless” for Australian Crawl (HP-1×1, 28-Nov-83), which is helped by being used in the ‘Puberty Blues’ promos on Channel 10, and the fact that their back catalogue was just re-issued digitally, which is also why their second single “The Boys Light Up” (HP-22, 1980) returns at No.86 this week, plus their latest “Greatest Hits” set is the highest new albums entry this week at No.4.

The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi start soon, and the Chanel Ten ads for the games featuring “Hall of Fame” for The Script and Will.i.am is back up to No.72 this week, also the track gains a 6x▲ Platinum sales certification. Violent Soho jump up fourteen places to a new peak of No.80 with “Covered in Chrome” (J100 #14) and The Amity Affliction see their cover of “Born to Die” jump up sixteen spots to a new peak of No.82 (J100 #40). Further Triple J Top 100 place getters and returnees this week include “Black Skinhead” for Kanye West (TW-87, J100 #20), “Lanterns” for Birds of Tokyo (TW-88, J100 #22), “Alive” for Empire of the Sun (TW-94, J100 #30), A$AP Rocky with Kendrick Lamar and “F**kin Problems” (TW-98, J100 #79) and local dance act Rufus are back in with “Take Me” (TW-99, J100 #21). The Lumineers are back in at No.90 with “Ho Hey”, and due to their historical performance at The Grammys, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis return at No.92 with “Same Love” (HP-1).

New at No.51 is an ensemble of Sony local artists Dami Im, Jessica Mauboy, Nathaniel, Justice Crew, Samantha Jade and Taylor Henderson with John Foreman on Piano, who cover the song “I am Australian”, which debuts at No.51. The original version charted in June 1997 reaching No.17 as duet for Judith Durham (The Seekers) and Russell Hitchcock (Air Supply).

The Vamps see their second chart entry occur this week, as “Wild Heart” debuts at No.63, whilst new at No.74 is Eminem with Nate Ruess (from Fun.) with the sixth track to chart from his current ‘Marshall Mathers LP 2’ (TW-12) entitled “Headlights” with the last new entry coming in at No.96, Grammy nominated “Brave” by Sara Bareilles, which becomes her second chart entry here, as she made it to No.4 in July 2008 with her debut single “Love Song”.
