James Arthur’s ballad “Say You Won’t Let Go” becomes the fourth longest running No.1 on the ARIA Singles Chart for 2016, as it holds for a fifth straight week at the top.
By staying for a fifth week, “Say You Won’t Let Go” is now the fourth longest run for 2016 behind “Closer” (9 wks) for The Chainsmokers (from 15-Aug), “7 Years” (8 wks) for Lukas Graham (from 22-Feb) and third is “One Dance” (7 wks) for Drake with Wizkid and Kyla (from 9-May), and now resting in fifth place for this year is the hangover from 2015, when “Love Yourself” for Justin Bieber managed the first four weeks of 2016 (first hit the top 14-Dec-15).
Last week the top six songs all stayed put, this week it’s only the Top 3, with The Weeknd and Daft Punk on hold at No.2 for a fifth week (same as No.1) and with his multiple wins at the EUVMA’s this past week, it could’ve climbed to the top (it is #1 on the streaming chart though), but alas not again, then at No.3 for also a fifth week is the former No.1 “Closer” for The Chainsmokers and Halsey, which has now been within the Top 3 for three straight months (debuted at #2, then nine weeks at No.1, followed by five at No.3), and is now 5x▲Platinum in sales.
Back up one spot to No.4 is former No.,2 single “Dancing on My Own” for Calum Scott which swaps places with “Shout Out to My Ex” by Little Mix, which after two weeks at No.4 is down one to No.5, but the girls are in the country this coming week and appearing on X-Factor, so this single could climb back up next week.
Maroon 5 and Kendrick Lamar are up three places to a new peak of No.6 with “Don’t Wanna Know”, which is now Gold (●) in sales and it matches the No.6 peak that their last Top 10 entry achieved, “Sugar” (HP-6×3) back in March of 2015. Jumping up fourteen places to land a new peak of No.7 with their first Top 10 hit is NEIKED with their “Sexual” track featuring Dyo, which also becomes her first Top 10 appearance, as when she first charted as Ms.D on the Wiley track “Heatwave” (peaked early Oct 2012) it only climbed to No.31.
Holding at No.8 is Bruno Mars with his “24K Magic” track which also cracks the Gold (●) in sales, and another dance act who land their first Top 10 entry is Nevada whose re-do of “The Mack” moves up two places to land a new peak of No.9, taking only four weeks to climb into the ten, whereas the original Mark Morrison version of “Return of The Mack” took five weeks within the Top 50 (but nine weeks within the Top 100) to climb to the ten. Not only does this become the first Top 10 for Nevada here, but also the first for Fetty Wap and now the second for Mark Morrison. Finally falling down four places to land at No.10 is Hailee Steinfeld with Zedd and Grey and their track “Starving”, spending its tenth week within the Top 10 and is now 2x▲Platinum in sales too.
