Over the last 24 hours I spotted some announcements about some unholy festivals that I thought were worth passing along:

CALIFORNIA DEATHFEST 2016

They probably still haven’t finished cleaning up the Oakland Metro after the inaugural edition of the California Deathfest in October (which I scribbled about in these posts), and now CDF has already announced the initial list of bands for the follow-up installment of the festival on October 14-16, 2016 — and it’s a damned fine beginning. Take a look:

Angelcorpse
Birdflesh (Sweden)
Blood Incantation
Dead in the Manger
Demilich (Finland)
Excruciating Terror
Necrosic
Revenge (Canada)
Rites of Thy Degringolade (Canada)
Ruins of Beverast (Germany)
Spectral Voice

Along with this announcement, the organizers of CDF also stated that many more bands will be announced very soon, and that early-bird weekend passes will also go on sale soon. Watch this space:

UNCONQUERED DARKNESS FEST

This morning Invictus Productions and Dark Descent Records announced the final line-up for the Unconquered Darkness Fest, which will take place at the Voodoo Lounge in Dublin, Ireland, from April 30 through May 1, 2016. And it’s a hell of a line-up:

Morpheus Descends
Adversarial
Possession
Maveth
Lantern
Krypts
Corpsessed
Head of the Demon
Lvcifyre
Antiversum
Lucifericon
Malthusian
Malokarpatan
Anguish
Sheol
QRIXKUOR
Obscure Burial
ZOM
Vircolac
Ellorsith
Apostate Viaticum

I’ve always wanted to visit Dublin in the springtime. To hear the birds singing, to see the trees budding, to be sacrificed on a sonic altar of death and degradation… wouldn’t that just be glorious?

Tickets are on sale now at these locations:

NORTH DISSONANT VOICES

This final item is a smaller and more localized event than the festivals noted above, but it caught my eye because of some interesting names in the line-up of musical performers.

The event is called North Dissonant Voices and it will take place on January 2, 2016, at CAVE 45 in Porto, Portugal. Organized principally by the Signal Rex label, it will include a book release by graphic artist Pedro Esteves (the book is Fogo Adverso, and more info about the artist can be found here), an art exhibition called Gongs & Cymbals by percussionist, going-maker, and cymbalsmith João Filipe Pais (go here for more info about his work), a DJ set, and performances by these bands:

Atila
Örök
Vaee Solis
Nevoa
Memoirs Of A Secret Empire

Vaee Solis was one of the bands included in our friend Gorger’s inaugural edition of what appears to be a continuing NCS series, Beneath the NCS Radar, and they are a great new discovery. I’ve only just begun to explore the music of the other bands, listening to only a few tracks from the latest releases by each one, but it’s all very interesting and very fine music (just packaging the first four bands together would make for a fascinating Shades of Black post, and from what I’ve heard so far, Memoirs is making some spellbinding post-metal). In case you feel like going exploring, too, I’ve included Bandcamp streams for releases by all the bands below.

Yeah, you knew I’d eventually find a way to work some music into this post.
