The NMC Academy has launched a free online learning experience that will help K-12 education administrators and practitioners apply the findings of the NMC Horizon Report > 2014 K-12 Edition in their schools. Built and facilitated by Dr. Holly Ludgate, the Director of the NMC Academy, the NMC Horizon Report Toolkit > 2014 K-12 mini-course brings the content of the NMC Horizon Report to life. Aimed at K-12 education professionals, the course was created to support educators as they engage in discussions and build strategies around the key trends, challenges, and technologies that will influence schools in the next five years.

“In essence, the main goal for the NMC Horizon Report Toolkit > 2014 K-12 is to empower educators and administrators alike to learn more about the report, and ideally, to begin making changes in their environment that directly reflect its findings,” said Dr. Ludgate. “This toolkit offers project examples, readings, hands-on activities, and strategies for becoming the change agent in your learning institution.”

The inaugural NMC Horizon Report Toolkit course has three modules — key trends, significant challenges, and important developments in educational technology — and each offers a chance to dive deeper into these topics through videos, project examples, readings, media-based learning activities, and discussion forums that facilitate global collaboration.

“A common response we receive from NMC Horizon Report readers is a desire to have help in taking the content of the reports and bringing them into action in their classrooms and programs,” said Samantha Adams Becker, Director of the NMC Horizon Project. “I believe the NMC Horizon Report Toolkit courses will be an essential part of that bridge.”

This course is the first in a series of learning experiences that leverage the findings of the NMC Horizon Project to help educators develop and apply concrete strategies for integrating educational technology into their institutions. Upcoming courses will cover the NMC Horizon Report > 2014 Library Edition and future reports.

This course is offered by the NMC Academy, the NMC’s online learning hub, which has more than 50 free, high-quality courses that provide professional development for educators seeking to enhance their technology and instruction practices.
