The National Village Museum “Dimitrie Gusti” in Bucharest on Saturday and Sunday organizes The Days of Serbian Culture.
Shows, traditional Serbian dances, book presentations and film screenings will take place on Saturday and Sunday at the National Village Museum “Dimitrie Gusti” in Bucharest, at the event “Serbian Culture Days” , informs a press release.
The official opening will take place on Saturday at 13.00. During the two days of the event, the National Village Museum “Dimitrie Gusti” will host performances of traditional Serbian music and dancing, book presentations, a photo exhibition, documentary film screenings about the traditions of the Serbs living in Romania.
The special guests of the event are the Cultural and Artistic Association “Mladost” and the “Spomenari” orchestra. Also, it will be inaugurated the photo exhibition “Serb monasteries and churches in Banat”.
The Cultural and Artistic Association “Mladost” was founded in 1969 by a group of Serbian students with the desire to gather young amateur artists, musicians, singers and dancers and to preserve this way the Serb cultural heritage. Almost all the cultural activity of the Serbs living in Timisoara and Banat was taking place at the beginning through the “Mladost” association. In time, the activity of the group widened comprising the theater studio “Thalia”, rock groups, literary circles.
“Mladost” occupies a special place among the Serbian folk groups in Romania, being the oldest and largest organization of its kind. With constant activity from the beginning up to present, “Mladost” is successfully representing the Serb community in Romania at competitions and festivals taking place in Serbia and in Europe, and returned with numerous trophies.
The Union of Serbs in Romania (USR) is representing the Serb minority in Romania, concentrated mainly in the counties of Timis, Caras-Severin, Arad and Mehedinti.
The Union organizes annually several cultural and artistic events, including a marathon of Serbian dance and singing (in April) and a choir festival (in May). It also publishes the weekly “Nasa reci” (Our word) and a literary quarterly Knjizeveni Zivot (Literary Life).
