Founded in 1992, Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) operates in over 50 countries and invests in social development projects in 120 countries in 5 continents. Since its inception, it has carried out more than 13.000 projects in the fields of education, health, agricultural development, finance, local administration, social programs, and tourism.

In February 2015, thanks to the close relations between Turkey and Romania, TIKA opened a Program Coordination Office in Romania. In less than a year, we have launched our first project in Romania by refurbishing the new laboratory of the National Research Institute for Sports. The laboratory has been renovated and equipped with the latest tools to serve for the needs of the Romanian athletes. The new center was opened with a ceremony attended by Her Excellency the Minister of Youth and Sports, Ms. Gabriela Szabo, and the President of the Romanian Olympic Committee, Mr. Alin Petrache. We thank our partner in this project, Romanian Ministry of Sports and Youth, for their professional conduct.

In line with our policy to support bilateral exchanges in various fields and expertise, we have supported a visit of a group of Romanian mayors to Turkey to have exchanges of ideas and experiences with their Turkish counterparts.

We also assumed our initial educational projects in Romania by renovating and equipping classrooms in various schools. Thanks to these projects a kindergarten with 160 kids now has a new playground, educational materials and technical equipment. In addition, 10 schools now have refurbished classrooms for students taking Turkish language classes. Last but not least, a classroom was fully renovated for the students of the Mehmet Akif Ersoy Department for Turkish language and Civilization at the Faculty of Letters of the Ovidius University. We will continue to work with Ministry of Education and Scientific Research for future projects in different parts of Romania.”

It is a great pleasure for me to be the first TIKA resident representative in Romania. We will do our best to ensure that Romania takes a good share of annually over 2.000 projects TIKA implements worldwide. Through new projects, we will make every effort to contribute to already existing strong relations between Turkey and Romania.
