Romanian pilots have just scored their best results in the history of the Romanian sport aviation at the 9th European Aerobatic Championships that took place on the Saulesti Aerodrome near Deva, with Laszlo Ferencz making it to the 2nd spot in the individual competition; the Romanian team was also second in the general ranking.

The top position in the general ranking belonged to France, followed by Romania, Ukraine, the Russian Federation, UK, Poland, Lithuania and Switzerland.

“These are the best results obtained by the Romanian pilots in the entire history of the sport aviation and they are the result of a project launched by the Romanian Aeroclub in 2009,” the Romanian Aeroclub posted on its website on Friday.

The individual ranking:

Jean-Max Vautier – France – 10,041.33 points

Laszlo Ferencz – Romania – 9,979.66 points

Benoit Fact – France – 9,794.28 points

The general ranking:

France – 29,542.49 points

Romania – 28,380.61 points

Ukraine – 28,246.32 points

The competition kicked off on July 23; it was organized by the Romanian Aeroclub, under the auspices of the FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale) and the Romanian Aeronautical Federation. Participating were the best pilots from 12 European countries: Switzerland, Italy, Lithuania, Monaco, Luxembourg, UK, Belgium, Russia, Poland, France, Ukraine and Romania.

The Romanian team comprised Laszlo Ferencz, Dan Stefanescu, Andrei Serbu, Cristian Iorgov and George Rotaru.

Last year, Romania occupied the 5th position.

An air show will also follow on Saturday in Saulesti, before the award ceremony, Agerpres informs.
