The “lightweight revolution” that permeates most of the Swoosh’s footwear divisions touches down in Nike Tennis today, as the brand took the wraps off the Nike Lunar Ballistec, weighing in at three ounces less than the typical tennis shoe that’s currently available.

While lightweight was the goal, designers didn’t forsake other hallmarks of Nike Tennis footwear in the process, ensuring that durability, responsivness and support are all omnipresent on the new shoe. For the Lunar Ballistec’s upper, designer looked to the style and material of Nike Football and Nike Basketball silhouettes, incorporating synthetic leather and mesh in order to create a more supportive fit while dropping weight. Flywire meanwhile supports the midfoot, ensuring an adaptive style that’s custom to each player thanks to syncing up through the lacing assembly.

Beneath, a full-length Lunarlon foam midsole was design specifically for the sport of tennis. Cushioning is plush and comfortable, while still delivering a resilient, responsive, springy ride. A TPU midfoot shank stabilizes the foot during multidirectional cuts and shifts, and the outsole was engineered based on extensive foot-pressure and performance data, allowing Nike to remove material where it wasn’t needed while still offering extreme traction and durability. The wearer’s foot is closer to the ground than ever before, too, meaning court-feel and control are maximized.

The Lunar Ballistec releases January 2 worldwide.
