1) A postgraduate student of Arabic Studies at the University of Ilorin, AbdulHafeez Adedimeji, died on Saturday, the day he was to bad his doctorate degree at the convocation of the institution.
The deceased, who until his death was a lecturer at the Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun State, was among the 166 persons to receive doctoral degrees at the convocation.
2) No fewer than 2,000 members of different cult group on Saturday embraced the amnesty declared by the Rivers State Government.
The cult members, who were involved in kidnappings, killings and armed robberies in the past, laid down their weapons before members of the state Amnesty Committee in Isiokpo, the headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.
3) The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper, Odele Tosin, for allegedly masterminding the kidnap of a 12-year-old girl, Eniola Oyekanmi, in the Ketu area of Lagos.
Policemen who were attached to Mowe Division of the command reportedly rescued Oyekanmi around 1am on Saturday in a hotel at Mowe, Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of the state, where they also picked up the suspect.
4) The internal crisis currently rocking the All Progressives Congress, APC, may soon come to and end as President Muhammadu Buhari and his erstwhile close political associate and South-West political strongman, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu have moved to settle their rift.
The two sides began planning to end the prolong feud during a recent meeting that President Buhari held with some of Tinubu’s loyalists in Aso Rock.
5) The Kaduna State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Alhaji Mohammad Abdulahi has claimed that the previous Peoples Democratic Party-led administration in the state lavished over 2.1billion on sweets, juice and food, annually.
Abdullahi at a round table discussion on the Kaduna state 2017 budget proposal also revealed that 500 million naira was also spent, annually, on purchase of newspapers by the PDP administration.
6) Meyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigerian (MACBAN) has warned Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State against using cows of its members for stomach infrastructure.
The group’s spokesman, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, said the recent launch of Ekiti Grazing Enforcement Marshals (EGEM), popularly called ‘Anti-malu’ was a total war against their people who are bonnafide citizens of the country.
7) Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has affirmed that all the three arms of government are highly corrupt.
According to him, none of the arms of government is immune from the scourge of corruption but Buhari government is ready to combat it, right from the school level.
8) Chairman of Chibok local government area, Mr. Ya’aga Yarakuwu, has appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to send the 21 Chibok girls released by the Boko Haram sect abroad to continue their education.
Yarakuwu, while highlighting the challenges bedeviling the community which he said included lack of roads and schools, appealed to Buhari to come to the aid of the community. He called for deployment of more security personnel to the area.
9) Founder and Spiritual Leader of INRI Evangelical and Spiritual Church, Oke Afa, Isolo, Lagos, Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele, has declared that Nigeria would not know peace until it has prayed hard to remove the curse placed on the country over the gruesome murder of Nigeria’s first and only Prime Minister, Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. According to him, the spirit of Balewa was haunting politicians in Aso Rock.
10) The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba n’Edo Uku Akpolopkolo, Oba Ewuare II, has stated that he is committed to a peaceful Nigeria irrespective of religious and cultural differences.
Oba Ewuare II, who stated this yesterday evening during a special Durbar ceremony organised in his honour by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, at the Oba’s Palace in Benin Cit, said his emergence was divinely ordained.
