A while back I announced that I was going to build out a niche website within the competitive auto insurance niche.  While i’m not new to the insurance lead generation space i’ve never tackled it with a small niche website approach.  In fact, in my previous post I revealed the domain and the primary keyword i’m gunning for.  Now that the cats out of the bag and you all know what i’m working on you probably want to know how i’m going to monetize bostonautoinsurance.net.

Lead Generation

I’ve had success with Adsense and Amazon Associates but I can honestly tell you that all the big boy affiliates play in the lead gen scene.  It’s not uncommon for a single lead in the insurance niche to produce $9.00 – $15.00.  You can see how just a handful of qualified traffic can lead to hundreds of dollars.  Unlike Adsense and other affiliate sites where the more traffic = more earnings the name of the game in the insurance niche is QUALITY.

For my public insurance niche site i’ll be using BrokersWeb.com.  I’ve used this company for previous projects and their legit.  You get an assigned Account Manager to help you out and answer any questions you have and payment is net 30 with a minimum payout of $100.00.

How Does Lead Gen Work?

Lead generation is unique that someone does not have to buy a product or service in order for you to get paid a commission.  In the car insurance niche, Brokers Web pays each affiliate a commission each time a sites visitor inputs their zip code, answers a couple easy questions and then clicks on qualified insurance companies offer.

Above you’ll see the lead gen form that i’m using on BostonAutoInsurance.net.  While I supplied the image to the left of the family and Durango – BrokersWeb supplied the lead gen image and script in addition to the results page you see below.

The results page you see above is what someone will see after they input their zip-code and answer the three simple questions in the script supplied by BrokersWeb.  Each time the user clicks on one of the companies links from this results page (each results page is custom per the zip-code inputed) the affiliate is paid a commission.  Obviously, the goal is to have the user click on several to maximize the value of each lead.

What’s Next?

BostonAutoInsurance.net has been built and published.  I added a few pages to start with and am in the process of building a few links.  I originally wanted to keep it to less than 5 pages but am convinced that a blog will be necessary to maintain “freshness” which Google values.

I’ve tracked some very preliminary rankings for “boston auto insurance” and have been steadily climbing.  Starting at 500+ and now sitting in the mid 200′s.  I believe as I publish more content and add valuable links that this will climb quickly.  I have some competitors that are ranking for this term which hold a lot of domain authority.  I’m hoping to conquer the SERPS by keeping the site extremely relevant and to steadily build up its authority.  This I believe is the only way to outrank some of the internal pages dedicated to boston insurance from the big guys like Progressive or Geico.

The good news is that i’m already seeing a lot of progress in Bing/Yahoo.  In both i’m ranking top 10.  While I believe that a #1 ranking (above local listing) will absolutely be necessary for this site to be profitable – it’s really nice to see an upward trend.  I can only hope that Google will follow suit with just a little more time.
