Job Responsibilities: Elderbridge Agency on Aging VISTA

The AmeriCorps VISTA Project at the Iowa Department on Aging seeks one VISTA member to serve as Community Outreach Specialist with Elderbridge Agency on Aging in Mason City, IA. This member will work in tandem with other VISTAs to develop programming in Iowa’s aging network, including LifeLong Links (LLL) Aging and Disability Resource Centers, the Volunteer Ombudsman Program (VOP), and the Office of the Substitute Decision Maker, and support services offered to older Iowans, Iowans with disabilities, and disabled veterans.

The selected candidate will begin on approximately April 1, 2016.

Bachelor’s degrees are preferred but not required. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license.

The VISTA will:

• develop and refine an outreach plan for the region.

• research unserved and underserved populations.

• design or enhance LLL activities, events, and fundraising.

• implement community outreach plan to raise awareness of service available through LifeLong Links

• incorporate service of the Agency into outreach activities.

• evaluate the effectiveness of outreach efforts.

Benefits include: $11,676 living stipend, $5,730 education scholarship or $1,500 cash completion bonus, relocation allowance, health plan, student loan forbearance or deferment, and childcare assistance.

VOP VISTAs

The AmeriCorps VISTA Project at the Iowa Department on Aging seeks two VISTA members to serve as Volunteer Coordinators for the Volunteer Ombudsman Program in Des Moines. These members will work in tandem with other VISTAs to develop programming in Iowa’s aging network, including LifeLong Links Aging and Disability Resource Centers, the Volunteer Ombudsman Program (VOP), the Office of the Substitute Decision Maker, and support services offered to older Iowans, Iowans with disabilities, and disabled veterans.

Selected candidates will begin on approximately April 1, 2016.

Both VISTAs will:

• familiarize themselves with VOP practices.

• observe and participate in VOP interviews, training, and volunteer management.

• assist with VOP programs and projects.

• manage Volunteer Ombudsmen in assigned region(s) of the state according to VOP procedure.

One VISTA will focus on development of the program, and will:

• lead development of VOP to enhance volunteer engagement, funding, and new program initiatives.

• evaluate VOP effectiveness and research enhancements.

• coordinate ongoing education for volunteers, including regional events, webinars and online resource library, and local/regional peer groups.

• research and pursue funding opportunities to expand the program.

One VISTA will focus on outreach for the program, and will:

• maintain existing outreach strategies and develop new strategies.

• develop and maintain relationships in the community, including: student engagement offices, aging programs, faith-based communities, health network partners, et al.

• research and coordinate opportunities for print and digital media.

• attend (or coordinate representatives to attend) volunteer/health/senior fairs & expos across the state.
