The 2015 – 2016 season performances:

Kate Davis                Proudly presented by North Iowa Broadcasting

The music of multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Kate Davis has been turning heads in New York’s music scene since 2012. This gutsy songstress puts a fresh spin on the standards and brings a recognized sensibility to her own lush tracks. Kate became a New York transplant in 2009 when she enrolled at Manhattan School of Music. Lauded by MTV as one of 2014’s “15 Fresh Females Who Will Rule Pop,” Kate grew up with an instrument in her arms and a head full of inventive lyrics.  Vivid, nostalgic melodies materialize out of Kate’s musical arrangements, and her songbird voice is complimented by a rich rock ‘n’ roll bass line. Alternating between achingly soulful and flippantly funny, her lyrics are novel and deliver something honest and truly perceptive. Recently, Kate has shared the stage with such diverse artists as Alison Krauss, Josh Groban, Ben Folds, Sara Bareilles, and Renée Fleming. Her accolades include a Robert Allen Award from the ASCAP Foundation, and her arts advocacy work includes a presentation at TEDxPortland and participation in the 2010 National Arts Policy Roundtable. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy            Proudly presented by Samuel and Patricia Congello

Rattle Them Bones

The year 2015 marks the 22nd anniversary of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s remarkable arrival onto the music scene. In its first years, having secured their legendary residency at The Derby Club in Los Angeles, they reminded the world—in the middle of the grunge era, no less—that it was still cool to swing, big band style. Today the high-energy nine-piece ensemble continues the party and takes things to the next level with the release of Rattle Them Bones. The follow-up to the much-lauded 2009 release, How Big Can You Get?: The Music of Cab Calloway, Rattle Them Bones still urges their millions of fans worldwide to shake and move to their inimitable grooves while also expanding their horizons with new musical inspiration and influence. 42nd Street            Proudly presented by Dean Genth and Dr. Gary Swenson and

Mason City Clinic

The quintessential backstage musical comedy classic, 42nd Street, is the song and dance fable of Broadway with an American dream story and includes some of the greatest songs ever written such as We’re in the Money, Lullaby of Broadway, Shuffle Off to Buffalo, Dames, I Only Have Eyes For You, and of course, 42nd Street.

Based on a novel by Bradford Ropes and Busby Berkeley’s 1933 movie, 42nd Street tells the story of a starry-eyed young dancer named Peggy Sawyer who leaves her Allentown home and travels to New York to audition for the new Broadway musical Pretty Lady. When the star breaks her ankle, Peggy takes over and becomes a star. With a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble, music by Harry Warren and lyrics by Al Dubin, this sparkling new production will be directed by co-author Mark Bramble and choreographed by Randy Skinner, the team who staged the 2001 Tony Award-winning Best Musical Revival.

Ronnie Milsap                Proudly presented by Petro Blend

Legend In My Time

Farewell Tour

40 #1 Hits

Over 35 million albums sold

6-Time Grammy Award Winner

12 ACM and CMA Awards

Ronnie Milsap ranks as the pre-eminent country soul singer of his generation. He also represents much more than any two-word definition can convey: a humble, overtly friendly fellow with a talent as vast and multidimensional as the American South. Milsap provided country music with one of its most important voices as the genre was moving beyond its rural roots into the mainstream of modern entertainment. Country music couldn’t have found a man more suited to lead the charge. Steeped in the mountain music of the North Carolina hills and schooled in classical piano, Milsap found inspiration early in his life in a wide variety of music. Even as he mastered Beethoven and Mozart, his heart belonged to hard core country and rhythm-and-blues–music he heard beamed from powerful radio stations located in Nashville. Those earthy sounds about life and love provided a young, impoverished blind boy with a connection to a world beyond the harsh reality of his daily existence.

Doc Hendley               Proudly presented by Mercy Medical Center and

Principal Financial Group Foundation

Common Read: Wine to Water

NIACC is proud to introduce its first Common Read selection, Wine to Water, to our students and community. Doc Hendley is a 2009 CNN Hero.  He is President/Founder of the organization Wine to Water. “When the idea came to me to start Wine to Water, the only real job experience I had was tending bar,” said Hendley. “I dreamed of building an organization that fought water-related death and disease using different methods than anyone else. So, I started raising money to fight this water epidemic the best way I knew how–by pouring wine and playing music.”

In 2003 he dreamed of the concept of his organization while bartending and playing music in nightclubs around Raleigh, North Carolina. The first fundraiser was held in February 2004 for what would one day be Wine to Water, and by August of that same year Hendley was living in Darfur, Sudan, installing water systems for victims of the government-supported genocide. Putting his life in peril, along with those on his team who were committed to providing clean water for the world (two of which were killed during this period), Hendley returned home with an even stronger sense of the need of clean water around the globe.

When Doc returned home in August 2005, after spending a year in Darfur, the haunting memories of what he had seen in Darfur drove him to continue building the organization he started two years prior. In 2007, after working two jobs and volunteering his time for three years, Wine to Water became an official 501(c)(3), and Doc’s dream finally became a reality. He now has projects in nine different countries around the world and has saved thousands of lives by providing humanity’s most basic need and right–clean drinking water.

Ana Gasteyer                Proudly presented by Digity

SASS! BRASS! VIM! VERVE! GIN-AND-TONIC! MOXIE! NERVE!

From Saturday Night Live (SNL) to the NIACC stage….. When Ana Gasteyer steps up to the microphone, she evokes the swagger of an era when a lady ruled a nightclub and an audience knew they were in for a good time. The patter is real, the themes adult; the lyrics are timeless, and the music swings like crazy!  A violin player from the tender age of five, Gasteyer always had an ear for music and a knack for timing. Years later, after a formal education as a classically trained singer, she made the fateful discovery that she could get people laughing–and laugh they did every Saturday night at NBC’s Studio 8H. Audiences fell in love with Gasteyer’s flair for irony and character-driven comedy on six seasons of SNL where she unabashedly played, and often sang, at full-tilt. Out of Bounds            Proudly presented by Mercy Medical Center and

Stratford Foundation

Special Project: Two Perspectives. Out of Bounds has two performance components anchored by the topic of cyberbullying. There is a full-length public performance for family audiences (middle school through adult.) There is also a companion youth outreach performance for school audiences. What happens when you can’t protect your own kid from the cruelty of her friends? Allison is a single mother who spends an entire school year trying to fight her daughter’s bullies while being haunted by memories of her own experiences growing up. Humorous, thoughtful, and honest, Out of Bounds weaves together video footage, comic books, and interviews to tell the stories of kids stuck on the outside and the adults who feel powerless to help them.

The outreach production tells the same story focusing on the point of view of 14-year-old Amy and her peers. On a dare, Amy posted a picture of herself online that she shouldn’t have. Now that she’s transferred to a new school, she hopes she can make a fresh start. But then a rival finds the whole embarrassing history online, and now Amy has nowhere to run. Emily West            Proudly presented by Samuel and Patricia Congello

Emily West’s dream is to tell stories through song. After moving to Nashville at the age of 18, she enjoyed some success as a country music artist. In search of a clean slate, she packed a bag for New York City. She was looking for a do-over and an opportunity to reinvent herself. She found her home in the clubs and theaters of Manhattan where she transfixed audiences with her one-woman show.

Emily West is a musical maverick in the masquerade of pinup perfection.  Musically captivating and innovative, she knows she has been a hard case for the industry to define. “I’m a Jessica Rabbit/Tom Waits kinda-something. I love hearing beautiful melodies telling me horrible things. I wear my heart on my sleeve. I love to interpret a song. I love to sing stories.”

In 2014, she made the decision to audition for America’s Got Talent. “I thought maybe if I auditioned in front of the world, I could save time and see where it would take me.” It was a wise decision. West excelled on the national stage and came in second in the renowned competition–a result she hopes will allow her to play to the breadth of audiences she’s always wanted and to take them with her on this exciting journey.
